England women v Sweden - Jess Carter

Never been a footballer.

Never has the phrase "you're only as strong as your weakest link" been so apt.

How on Earth is she still on the pitch?!

So frustrating as the rest of the team are super talented.

England have had some decent chances this 2nd half so far. Could easily be level.

Hilarious stuff, we’ve got EFL teams trying to play out from the back ala Barcelona 15 years ago, now the Women are doing it, when is it going to dawn on lower level football this is outdated and unless you’ve got world class players it simply does not work. Opposition must love it when teams fart around at the back. Thank goodness McCann doesn’t go down this dreadful over coached, trying to be clever  route.

No. 17 causing havoc, Kelly doing Beckham impressions on crosses.
It’s tense stuff now.

Get in!

Wow. Not sure how they got through that.

THE worst penalty shoot out I've ever seen!

I only saw extra time onwards, but England are very very lucky, so poor in comparison to previous games I have seen. The Swedes were the better team in that.

A lot of hype around James, she didn’t come across very well to me, looked lazy, an attitude she is better and didn’t want to work to hard.

This is admittedly after only seeing them for the first time.

Talk about lionesses. Absolute warriors. Lucy Bronze in particular will be sore tomorrow.

The penalty shootout showed some tired legs but England teams just do not show that kind of character usually. Between this team, the U21s winning, and some near misses with the men's team, we're changing that. Slowly.

Three very good penalties but the rest from both sides would shame a kid’s game. Terrible example.

Lucy bronze from the 2nd half and onwards was immense, some engine on her and to strap her own leg up and get on with it. That penalty was smashed with passion, nothing fancy like the misses before her.

Also though the defenders who finished the game looked bettwr and faster than the ones that started. Especially morgan.

TBF James was very decent, showed some class touches in the game.
Bronze’s penalty was a proper pelanty the rest were ropey. However the girls, Players, commentators, pundits showing loads of football passion (some of them can barely speak) what’s not to like? Great stuff!

Jess Carter was left exposed as she was when we got well beat by France. Big risk taking on the defensive line up.

We've been poor and sloppy for long periods with Kiera Walsh contributing very little, in fact hiding in midfield.

James was poor today but, we didn't get her on the ball enough early doors so she tends to get frustrated and does her own thing.

Weigman has stuck with  a few players for too long but, they keep getting her out of jail.

Bronze was the only one that realised the Swedish keeper commited early everytime,so either wait to see which way she commits and shoot the other or smash it down middle because she never stays in middle, virtual all the rest of our takers made their mind which way to shoot and telegraphed it by looking that way constantly,Swedish keeper was good at reading that,we got very, very lucky because most of Sweden pens missed the target, whereas our was saved by what I stated previously.

Sorry but can we stop pretending it's an elite sport. Who says BBC don't do great comedies anymore.

Never been a footballer.

Never has the phrase "you're only as strong as your weakest link" been so apt.

How on Earth is she still on the pitch?!

So frustrating as the rest of the team are super talented.

I was saying the same thing (about Carter) this morning.
Morgan should start the semi final ahead of her.

If you don't like it, don't watch it. No-one's forcing you to.

I'll bet you paid good money out a few years ago to watch the likes of Cukur and Dodoo, who couldn't trap a f*cking bag of cement.

Now that WAS a great comedy.

Totally agree, mate. There's no way Jess Carter should start against Italy. She's not good enough.

I would also start with Chloe Kelly instead of Lauren Hemp.

Carter really struggles when teams get the ball forward quickly, she has no pace at all, was poor again last night.
There were lots of others who underperformed, at times the passing was awful and they gave the ball away too easily.
Comments about James are probably a little harsh, and last night it seemed like her fitness was beginning to tell due to her recent layoff, plus the very hard blow she took to her face against the Netherlands.

Struggle to understand RIS comment about thank goodness Grant does play out from the back?. Some of our poor games last season were exactly a result of playing out too slowly from the back and not getting the ball forward quickly enough!

I was impressed by accurate passing throughout the game but Sweden kept the pressure on, obviously a better second half from England.

Moore played out from the back and produced some good watchable football.

Yes, Hemp has been a shadow of her former self but she seems glued to the left flank. When she and Russo have played as a pair more centrally, they've caused lots of problems. It's probably a consequence of accommodating Lauren James. You could easily play Kelly from the off, with either Hemp or James playing more centrally in a no 10 type role.

The biggest miss for me is Millie Bright who's left a gaping hole at the back with an aging Williamson having to hold things together.

Possibly the most shambolic penalty shootout in the history of football.

England weren’t poor n the second half - which you missed.  Worked hard, played some decent stuff, defended resolutely and changed the game with the subs.

A bit harsh to say they were poor when you only saw them play when half of them were knackered, particularly James, who tracked back and defenced to the end.
