Odd email about membership renewal
« on July 24, 2025, 02:24:12 am by BobG »
Evening chaps

I received an email just after midnight tonight  asking me to sign in to my account before Sunday so my membership can be renewed. Whilst the timing is right and the logos on the mail look right too, it told me I won't need my password to sign in. That, and the fact that a simple standing order was all that was needed for the last 18 years makes me ask, is that email genuine? Or would clicking the link it asks me to click end up with me downloading Sodom and Gomorrah?

I ain't touching that link without clear reassurance....

Cheers

Hi guys.

We are (finally) modernising the membership tools of the trust to bring us into the 21st Century. Emails are genuine and come from the new system. We will be launching it properly in a few days time, but for now members with valid emails in our old system are getting a reminder email.

Hope that helps.

Cool. No problem Rob. I will go ahead as requested. I was being the old, cynical, suspicious bugger.... Thanks for clearing it up.

This email has sneaked out during testing, so apologies.

Hi,

Apologies for sending out the email without warning, however it is a genuine email and was generated from the new system that we've bought and paid for. It brings us up to date with regards to GDPR and the new Online Safety Bill, and at the same time allows us to do so much more than we've done before.

As Rob says it has sneaked out but it would have gone out in the next few days anyway. I'm just trying to get my head around what generated the email!!

Lol! Computers, and their doings, are, as Churchill once remarked in a different context, "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma".
