Another excellent away win, everyone put a shift in, but special mention for Billy Sharp second half, belied his years yet again.

Number 10 position is a horror show every week. Sharp is doing a good job. I actually think he's playing better than last year.

Sbarra Clifton and Gotts have had a go and been useless in that position. 2 we already knew would be.

Useless?? Get a grip ffs!

We've played 5 games, and I think we've been the better side in all 5 games.

... or should that be in "parts of some of the games"

Broadbent is an unsung hero this season, he is looking real quality now.

Broadbent has been outstanding throughout 2025 so far.
Had he been able to stay on the pitch at Huddersfield I believe we would have won the game.
It is testament to his quality that the Huddersfield players were trying to get him sent off after his booking.

I see Sbarra and Clifton are this seasons scapegoats as they were last season.

imagine looking for scapegoats, after this start to the season

I like Clifton and we look a better team when he plays. He's no J Copps who will have you on the edge of your seat but he plays a good role in our system. Works hard and gets a few goals. Sbarra hasn't had a good run of games starting week in week out so who knows. So long as he's in the hoops he should get 100%support. Thats a given for any o e of our players. So long as they give 100%thats all we can ask. We're witnessing another period of food times and hopefully success. I genuinely think top 10 and maybe playoffs this year.

A very negative and unfair assessment.
How can you use words like “horror show” and “useless” after the start we’ve had?

Really enjoyed it today.

The Port Vale fans with whom I interacted were really friendly and welcoming.

It felt a bit like a ‘smash and grab’ victory and I’ll take that all day long. We should have had a point at Huddersfield and ironically today was possibly our least impressive performance of the season, but we came home with all 3 points.

So as my teenage daughter would say, “Na Na Na Boo-Boo”.

What was really pleasing was the players recognised we weren’t at the races and dug in to get in at half time level pegging and regroup. What was even more pleasing was the overall performance in the 2nd half. I thought it typified what an away performance is all about and the goal was superb. Thought Billy was excellent, ran himself into the ground, held the ball and linked up really well. I really like the look of us, we’ve not looked this well drilled since prime SOD days.

I’m not sure what Pearson did to get dropped, or what Jay did to keep him out of team ( and no disrespect to Jay either, I like him) I was beginning to think he had an injury.

I am beginning to wonder how much is Broadbent worth in this league, and how much he will be worth at the end of the season. The way he is playing I can imagine our highest ever bid for a DRFC player.

Oh and we need to sign Oriordan - Quality at this level and will only get stronger

I was really impressed with Pearson at the start of the season, looked a quality signing to me

Faal surely "miss of the match" . How did he not score

I noticed only on replay that he did the " heart " gesture to Rovers fans immediately after putting that ball wide and gave them a huge smile !

They replied immediately with a song dedicated to him.

3 words You're ******* **** repeated a few times lol . Hes certainly bulked up

He was laughing at that to be fair.  I still like Faal, talented player and a good character, but he massively IMO made the wrong move leaving us when he did.  Let's be honest it hasn't hurt us has it but he'd still even now add to our side I think?

On the game, the subs were spot on.  Pearson changed the game by dominating their player who was giving Mcgrath (who didn't look quite fit to me) a tough time.  I actually thought Senior was good defensively but Maxwell played well and offered more offensively which pushed them back.  Senior and Nixon need to develop the attacking prowess Sterry and Maxwell have.

Once we started to push them back we got well on top.  They tactically were quite defensive and almost trying to just catch us giving the ball away, counter or score a set piece.  Once we stopped that we were the far better team.  We need another striker I think to be a good side at this level.

Shout out for Gibson too, he was good when he came on.  I like that him and Middleton (good pass for the goal) are different types of players.

Good assessments.

On Gibson and Middleton. Middleton is a moments player, where as Gibson is a player that gets involved in build up and affects the team performance more. He can retain possession in wide areas allowing the team to move up the pitch.

Bit OTT but he's got a point aside from Gotts. Getting the balance right in midfield is a difficult one , think Crewe could be the one to make the 10 role his own, excellent energy in the press and can pick a pass

If we can spare him from other positions, Bailey would be an excellent no10, if required.!

What about Crew in that advanced position? Gives cover for Bailey when he goes forward

Shows the overall quality of a team when we can battle through a game like that and come away with all three points.

When you introduce a good handful of new players into a squad it will always take some time for them to assimilate into the squad, we haven't seen the best of this squad yet, we will in due course.

I don't think it's vital we play a 10. 2 8s and Broadbent would work fine IMO and play Gotts or Crewe. Gotts isn't a 10 and the other 2 were weak links in league 2 and are even more so now in league 1.
