Corner Kicks

I always feel that we should score more goals from corner kicks and was delighted to see the first goal last night scored from a corner. Up until then I thought our corners were predictable and easy to defend. I think we could be a bit more adventurous/imaginative with our corners and got very frustrated at the repeated floater into the goalkeepers hands.
I looked at a few stats on t'interweb and was surprised to see how low the ratio of goals to corners is!
I know the stats are limited to the  premiership teams last season but only 4.2% of corners resulted in a goal.This makes our 1 from 12 last night look good at 8.3%.
Arsenal always look dangerous from corners and seem to have a variety of options,and they have the advantage of technically better players.
Not sure what our overall success rate is from corners but I think we can improve our conversion rate with a bit more variety?

I seem to remember we had good success from corners under Penney. McIndoe and Green had a very nifty little corner routine to get in behind and whip a low ball into a packed box that worked quite a few times.

Much more recent than that with David Cotterill and Rob Jones.
Love to see a well worked out corner routine come off, does my head in someone taking the corners lift one hand in the air that seems to signal very little and then proceed to send the ball nowhere in particular.

I might be wrong here, but wasnt that Ian Harte? Either way i recall every time Reading got a corner there was a groan from the stands. Pin point accuracy.

Dave Kitson never played , it was Alex Pearce who scored for Reading assist by Ian Harte.

It was Ian Harte. Gary Kelly used to play the opposite full back position for Leeds but as far as I know didn’t play for Reading, although he is Harte’s uncle!

Most of the time I've seen us try something similar it end up as an easy catch for the keeper. At this level you've got to mix it up and keep the opposition guessing.

Sorry, yes it was Ian Harte and I got the scorer wrong as well. Rushing to post before the gym this morning.  No good at multi tasking and my memory isn’t quite what it was. A brilliant display that night though.

We have neither.

We took very few short corners last season. Same this season. Our attacking set pieces are poorly thought out imo. Defensively on set pieces I think we look well organised.

In Middleton we have the ability to set up good high or low crosses from corners, all we have to do is organise the forward line to make the most of them.

We had 12 corners last night and wasted one after the other with Ajayi floating them harmlessly into the welcoming arms of the Accy keeper.
Only when Middleton replaced Ajayi did we make a corner count.
