Matchday Atmosphere- away from the South Stand
« on August 31, 2025, 12:41:38 pm by RoverBB »
Hey All

Thought I’d pop in here to hear any opinions on how us (Black Bank) together with the Matchday Experience Group (Shadow Board initiative) can increase atmosphere and experience in other parts of the stadium.

An example, whilst we did the card display yesterday, we issued some of the waiving flags to the family stand - which we are yet to see any feedback for? - Please let us have any ideas.

A reminder that we pay for materials etc with proceeds from our website sale. Last night we did our 3 monthly financial update which you can find here: https://www.blackbankstore.co.uk/quarterly-reports

The South Stand has improved so.much in the past few years.   Much so that me and my son haven't been able to get in for the pastvtwo matches we have attended.

Great to see

I'm obviously biased, but i consider our black bank the best noise generator I've seen, and i do most away games. Not necessarily by sheer volume, but persistent singing and chanting, the sa.e as with the away support. Absolutely top notch. My Huddersfield mate said we were the best away support he had seen in years...

I think it’s quite good when you compare it to most grounds. The stadium acoustics lets it down a bit but that can’t be changed.

Would it improve if the SE and SW corners joined in?

That's great to hear. No doubt the performances on the pitch and the general feel good factor helps but, it's clear to see from my vantage point, there are alot of people of all ages having alot of fun in there.

I think when you look at other grounds, we are definitely right up there with fans being more animated and involved in the action.

I can see a possibility of the Black Bank being extended to both corners if the growth continues.  Of course, there's nothing stopping fans in those areas joining in and we do see the ripple effect spreading to the East and West with more fans joining in with the chanting and clapping. It's infectious.

Maybe something for the approaching winter months, is nominate a match or matches, as a scarf day. Something everyone can join in. Most folk will have scarves or various vintages they can bring to twirl or simply hold aloft at designated moments prompted by the Black Bank. I'm sure the younger kids would love this too.

One of my personal favourites was the "Bounce around the ground" which I'd love to see the Black Bank bouncing in unison.

The scarf ‘swirling’ would be visually more pronounced & like the (dreaded!) Mexican Wave become ‘infectious’ from seat to seat, section to section & stand to stand…..East Stand ‘Prawn Brigade’ excepted!

Bounce around the ground was really good.
To update it just substitute “Driscoll said….” With “M Cann said”.
It should catch on.

I like the scarf twirling idea, very good.

These are the sort of initiatives we need. Very simple, everyone can join in, and it can create a real atmosphere and get more fans involved.

Let’s nominate a ‘scarf day’.

Could the club perhaps lay scarves on every seat for a match, then maybe a flag at another for example? Surely in bulk the cost would be negligible and no excuses for everyone not joining in!

I’m all for that Pancho!

Kids, OAP’s, disabled. It’s something we can all do to a lesser or greater degree that as I said before, is very visible & ‘contagious’.

Tie those scarfs around your wrists & we’re off & running!

A bit late now as the new pa system is in place and up and running, but I 've always thought it would be a great idea to have ambient mic's suspended from the roof canopies picking up all the home chanting and singing and have it coming "live" through the pa system. This would create a cacophony of sound for home and visiting support and would make our home support very intimidating.

I think one idea would be to have the East and West groups to develop their own war cries to communicate with the Black Bank .This often happens in Marseille where one side of the ground shouts a war cry then the other side responds to them with their own .Black Bank would need to set it up with just a small group east and west I guess .Good luck !

West Stand ‘war cry’….”You’re not eating anymore, You’re not eating, You’re not eating, You’re not eating anymore!”.

East Stand response….”We’re full up your, we’re full up you’re not, you’re not!”.

Ever thought that some people just like to watch a game of footbal without screeching and hollering? Maybe that's why we, who did our singing before some on here were born, decide to sit in the quiter stands

So its singing when you're young and when you did it but screeching and holloring now you're old and boring?

The good news is participating in any singing or chanting is optional.

As you say, we of older generations have maybe had our time but surely we wouldn't want to suppress the enthusiasm of those who still want to express themselves and have a bit of fun?

I think that's the terms I see music in these days .

Im not a singer, although I do clap along (boring old fart now!)

i think its brilliant when we sing the Allez Allez - you can clearly see the east stand joining in the longer it goes on , remember the amount of young kids in there who do get caught up in that emotion and buzz who love joining in!
The other chant is the whoaooho whoaooho, nananananana, I see the east joining with this too (when sung well and long enough)

So I think its just more of the same with the Black Bank driving it organically.

Not suppressing at all as I said some of us choose to sit in the quieter stands
Old and boring if you like Nudga, that's fine by me

Is there a reason the South stand was showing as sold out on the website before Saturday and yet there still loads of seats empty?

10% not sold because of unreserved seating

1. Buffer to accommodate unreserved seating so people can move about.
2. Some ST holders not turning up on the day (although it appears more folk are letting the club know to allow a ticket exchange...more work to be done on this)
3. Fans condense towards the back which gives the impression of more empty seats than there are.

There are people of all ages in the ground and some have health issues that limit involvement in chanting. Fans with different personalities perhaps also view a match in different ways. Every fan is entitled to choose how they support their team. I’m all for backing the team vocally but if the quieter fans didn’t attend then we wouldn’t have a team to support, or at least a successful one. I was very vocal in the 60s and 70s but now I’m in my late 70s only join in sporadically. There is room in the stadium for all types of fan.

Im back up on Saturday so my ST unreserved seat will have my arse on it. Joined by the lad too.

I will be fully immersed in the singing for sure - its a real escape and a time to sing like nobody's watching !!
