Dont agree with name dropping glenn for what he sees has 1 mistake.

Also dont agree with that we were comfortable in tge 1st half.

Also why do we pick a team based on the opposition each week??
So that potentially says to me we could win 4-0 one week but make changes the next game because he feels that the same team wont play well against the next opposition.

Play your best team regardless of the opponent

Preferred McCann MK1, he was fearless and the football was more exciting.
McCann MK2 has been lobotomised at St George's Park

He’s over thinking it if he’s picking the team based on opposition. Either that or he’s using it as an excuse for not knowing how good his players are.

Not impossible that Jas is playing the lad onside got the goal and the Linesman looked inline on the replay…

Their player was definitely offside! The lino must have had his eyes shut!

The same lino who didn’t stop play when twice the ball went out by a mile on the east stand side.

We were far from comfortable first half though.

The best runs we’ve had over the last few years with GM have coincided with picking a consistent 11 who just go out and play our game without too much concern for the opposition.

He did this last season too. Tinkering about trying to be smart before Jan then just going back to basics playing fairly direct and quickly and we start winning games.

Just listened to his interview and his view of the game is really concerning.
There is no way we were good in the first half, where we got lucky with a deflection from a relatively tame shot.
Yes the officiating was poor, but come on Grant you have got to realise that your system is not working and need to change things quickly.
Also if you are going to call individual players out, then please show some consistency ie please explain why you single out Middleton, but make no reference to Ajayi, who was absolutely shocking.
Very worrying comments!

I haven’t listened to Grant’s interview yet but how would YOU cope with having a microphone shoved in front of you 10 minutes after the final whistle when your team has lost?

It’s great for everyone to vent their frustrations and throw in their opinions on here but in the end it boils down to whether or not you have faith in the Manager.

I do.

I thought we were ok in the first half, obviously a bit nervy but generally we were the better team. The early equaliser in the second half killed us and you knew what was going to happen after that. Grant is right we need to be on the front foot always looking to score again. Too many times we get in decent positions and stop to turn back from the easy pass. These are players playing with fear not freedom.

The reason they pass back is no one finds space, you watch us compared to the opposition, they find space easily, be it dropping deeper to give an option or making runs to drag defenders out of position. We don’t see that enough from our players

Agree with this, there is no movement. Other teams can find space easily yet we seem to struggle to do it ourselves.

We are regularly second best with our work off the ball. The opposition always seem to have a spare man.

We know it, they know it but we can see they're devoid of confidence which slows things down, hesitation and indecision comes in to play. What's hard to accept is when we have possession at the back, all of the players in front of the ball are walking, waiting to see what happens next. There's alot of reactive, off the cuff stuff rather than proactive decisive play.

McCann is the one who has to dig these players out of  the rut and if he sees positive signs in the first half (which there were but too few) then by all means say so, even though we know it's still way short of what we're capable of.

Unfortunately, every small error on the pitch is compounded. You can't legislate for Baileys glaring miss so it seems we can't fight our way out of a paper bag. Opposition teams are  being presented with opportunities without breaking too much sweat.

It's tough but I'd rather have McCann working the problems than anyone else.

I always feel like Grants style is to win more duels than the opposition, be very good out of possession, progress the ball up the pitch using full backs and wide men, then let individuals do their things in the final third with freedom to try and win games.

You don’t see repetitive patterns of play in attacking areas. Giving players an autonomy in and around the area is fine but when you lack the individuals to win games, due to ability/form/whatever, you are in trouble.

We rush things when attacking. We don’t have the patience to move the ball side to side, probing through different phases, waiting for players to be out of position. We actually did it for 5 mins yesterday and we actually scored.

We need to decide if we are a passing team, in which case you need to be prescriptive with your attacking structures, or can we be a counter attacking team where directness and individualism is fine.

Bit of an identity crisis I think.

We had the opportunity to add a real strong coach to the mix in the summer. Someone who Grant could use to develop the style of play, different potentially smarter ideas, adding a bit of objectivity into the mix. We employed Barry Richardson, a goalkeeping coach.

Gaz, I was thinking about this the other day. It's all well and good banging on about signing lg1 standard players but what about the coaching staff?
They also have limitations as coaches and also like you say, new coaches bring fresh ideas, new training programmes etc..
Players could get bored of the same voices, the same training programmes.

Wrexham management/coaching team are s prime example.
Imaging having Steve Parkin coaching 20k a week ex prem players.

Agreed, you, only have to look at our "efforts" from throw ins, we must give the opposition more ball than anyone else in the league!

I don’t think he was hanging him out to dry or anything like that. Grants interviews give quite a lot away i think, he puts emphasis on players playing in a way that matches an ideology of what he wants without being too prescriptive. That way is fine if you have a group of players that are up there with the best groups in the league (like last season or his Hull promotion), otherwise it’s just going to be fairly inconsistent stuff as we are seeing at the minute.

It's s bit much to expect football managers to also be maestros of public relations especially when interviewed str8 after a game. In fact Grant does this better than most and he always comes across as being sincere and honest in his interviews.

Our problem is bloomin obvious and he knows it, most of our players are not good enough for this league, he's hardly likely to blurt that out.
