Hakeeb Adelakun
« on October 27, 2025, 02:26:34 pm by Balby Rover »
I know I am going to get a lot of stick and people say that boat has long gone. We need a different option up front but I think Grant ought to consider bringing Hakeeb Adelakun back. I know he messed up listening to her agent his brother I believe. At the recent Retford Supportors AGM Grant attended Hakeeb was brought up Grant said he was badly advised but he has played his best football under Grant he is only 29 I believe. No one can say he did not have Flair and offered up a different option. I say stick him up front and let Billy play off him. Ok I am getting ready for the stick to come back !!.

After the flak we gave him away at Salford last year, he might not want to come back. Very good player in my opinion.

He was a good player for us, but chose another way thinking he could make more money I assume. I doubt that sort of attitude would go down well with GM, and so this harping back to him as some sort of saviour is a waste of time.

I am not saying Hakeeb would be a saviour but he definitely has something to offer and is available what have we got to loose !!.

I’d piggy back him here in a heartbeat. He’s night and day compared to some of the dogsh*t we’ve signed lately.

When was the last time he played a competitive match? Currently if he’s training, he’s training alone so will not be match fit for weeks. So we’d be losing money on wages until he became fit enough to play.

He had until recently been training with the PFA squad don’t know how intense that is

His older brother who plays non league football in London ( last club being Corinthian Casuals ) is agent. The last wages he will have picked up at Salford would have been end of June, say £2500 a week, £40k he’s gone without.

He was clearly badly advised and ended up with just 1 year at Salford whereas the belief is that we offered him 2. He is a flair player (like Faal since he has been mentioned too) and we could do with one. However I don’t suppose our wishes make much difference. Just because TLT is not as good as we thought, it doesn’t mean the same applies to HA.

For me forget him he chose greed over loyalty, badly advised or not, there must be players lower down the pyramid that we should be looking at

I agree however we are in a bit of a mess and we need someone who can score, so if he would accept a short term contract, it could be beneficial for both parties.
Yes it’s obvious we need to look at others long term, however it’s unlikely we will see any movement until mid/end of January window.

I don’t think it was lack of loyalty since he only on loan to us, just a belief that he could do better which was misjudged or perhaps not well handled. It is probably true that he might have done better with a more effective agent.

I certainly hope you’re wrong with that second half of your sentence. It would be preferential if we got someone in asap (in January).

Grant will probably not do it but he is a player that can be on either wing/wide or behind a striker. He’s taller we would hope he could score. Even if we wait while January but we could get him in for training in December. This would take both parties to agree and it would down to the player and his representatives to negotiate properly about his wages.

He could be signed immediately because he is not under contract with anyone

I would suggest that GM knows pretty much the pro's & con's of most if not all of the players in the Football League.

I also would suggest, that if a player is training with the PFA, and not getting picked up, there is a reason. Every manager knows what players are floating around. There will be a reason why Adelakun is perhaps not on various club's radar, we, as outsiders are not party to that, (nor should we be)

It may be financial. It may be 'History'.  It could be something to do with fitness or attitude, manner or disposition.

Players have left some big clubs. Supporters have howled.  Down the line it tumbles out why.

I pretty much agree with all of that; which then begs the question of why GM made such utterly poor signings in Hanlan and Olusanya.

Madness. Surely he's reflected on the fact if he'd stayed with us he'd have been paid for two full years and be a regular in a league one team and is kicking himself and his agent? Although he turned down a deal at Salford at the end of last season, so obviously hasn't learned from that mistake. I thought he was excellent when we played Salford at theirs so how he's been without a club and the best he's now got is Cheltenham beggars belief. Silly arse.

It maybe says a lot about his character. He should have been busting a gut to be playing rather than wasting his best years.

End of June until 2nd week in November, 18/19 weeks, so that’s perhaps £40,000 he has gone without
