Sterry and maxwell
« on November 08, 2025, 05:27:47 pm by Thorney »
Not criticising the guys who have filled in the positions but by god it cant come quick enough when these 2 are back playing.

We are missing sterry's crosses so badly, nixon or grehan arn't a patch on him in that department.

Grehan is a CB, not a RB.

Grehan really really struggled today. Like a fish out of water. And I rate him highly. At CB! There was one incident in first half when moly had ball and it needed an overlap. Grehan eventually went but I’ve never seen someone try it so slowly. I don’t know if that was his full sprint or he didn’t want to go but it was so poor.

Nixon was fine when he came on and Senior is a decent defender just not much composure going forward. Yes we miss the two 1st choice but these guys are good backups

Grehan was a disaster at RB. Never seen a young player move so slow.

He's clearly not a right back and for whatever reason McCann played him ahead of Nixon and not for the first time.

Their winger was just very good. Made Nixon look daft as well and he's usually very good defensively

Thought Nixon was poor today as was Grehan in the first half

Both Nixon and Gehan struggled against their left winger and needed help from Clifton or someone else. Didn't happen.

The decision to play Grehan over Nixon at RB was a poor one.

Hamstring injury for Maxwell. Out for a while.

Spoke to Sterry today, hes back on the pitch and is hopeful of some minutes next week or Tuesday night. Broke his collarbone apparently, not the shoulder issue they thought

He was quality. Sammy Chung was king suggested him in the summer on here!

Thought their midfielder no.48 Connell was also a very good player.

For every 10 of Sammy's benchwarmers in the Albanian second tier, there is a pearl.

Greehan wasn’t getting tight enough on their left winger in the first half and he (the winger) always had plenty of time to take the ball and set himself to attack the space in behind.
I accept that he isn’t a regular RB but I wasn’t surprised when Nicko replaced him for the second half.

I don't actually disagree with this. Maxwell is so one footed and never even attempts the simplest of passes with his right!
Having said that Senior didnt have his best game.

Cleary was outstanding for them yesterday. I suspect whoever was at right-back would have struggled.

Sterry is a very important part of the way we like to play and his return to the team will be a massive boost.

So is Maxwell. Our 2 back up full backs are good defensively but probably not as good going forward

If any of you want to see what tackling forwards is watch the highlights of Harrogate v Oldham game, and tell me if we have anyone else on the books with that pace, just saying.

I'd agree that Sterry & Maxwell are better going forward, but in truth all four are pretty poor at stopping crosses and defending one v one.

Great recovering by Bobby.

Was caught sleeping mind.

Was also one of the two players at blame for not clearing the corner for Oldhams goal.

Back to the thread, big fan on Sterry and Maxwell. Them coming back and staying fit will have a big say in where we finish
