let's talk about the Luton Town game
« on January 01, 2026, 09:54:36 pm by selby »
A very quick turn around after todays entertaining game when we put a lot of effort in, picked up a couple of Knocks, and put a lot of effort in, looking like a  team with some fire in our belly.
The thing we didn't come up with was that vital win to get ourselves  back on track in what has turned into a survival scrap.
Poor finishing in the box cost us heavily as we contrived to miss some easy chances by a number of players,  but overall we covered ground, took the fight to Bolton, and had an energy that bodes well for the future, but our old weakness's still persist  in both penalty areas, poor defending at one end, and poor finishing at the other, and at the back a lack pace.
Lawlor is looking much more confident in goal, a big plus, but up front let's just say that at times it was comical.
Luton mean while were undone 1-0 at Exeter despite dominating possession were not at their best in front of goal.
Injury allowing I think the players today could keep the shirt and try and get that illusive win we are becoming desperate for.
The home  crowd today I thought gave the team a lift and got behind the lads who worked hard and never gave up which is credit to them.
Injury and fatigue could mean a couple of changes, and if we want goals the Hanlon turned out today is not the answer in front of goal, but again worked hard.
Lot's to look forward to , more to discuss and hopefully a win is not too far off, what do you think? please have your say.

Senior, Nixon and Gotts all well worth of keeping their place, as is Lawlor who hasn’t done much wrong since coming back.

McGrath still looks off it to me, but not sure what alternative we have.

Hanlan been decent of late, but off it today. Again, unless we’ve been very busy in the transfer market tomorrow we have no alternatives but to put him back in.

We have to find that win and end the run, the games will start to run down now we’re over half way and those points keeping us in the bottom four need making up asap.

Im not as concerned about this game as i was before today, play like we did today and we can get the win. They've just lost to Exeter and we should've got something from their place.

Lost to Exeter and no shot on target. Hope that continues

I guess it’ll be a similar approach to today’s game for us which is the right way to go imo. Be nice to have a few new faces in the bench or starting if one is a centre back.

Unlikely this game is on -4. Historically the covers don't do their job

I agree, if it’s as bad as the forecasters are saying? Might not be a bad thing, get some extra bodies in and the longer the better to get them embedded. Players could do with a break as well.

From Luton fans’forum today “ It ain't fun any more! When in the Conference with less able players who tried and gave a 5h1t, it was worth going to watch. This squad: weak mentality + slow tempo + style they're being asked to play + their p155-poor application = no reason to support.“

They aren't great away from home in the league, with a 50pc loss rate this season. They haven't won away in the league since 8 November and have lost 3 and drawn 1 since then, including losing at lowly Exeter on 1 January and getting hammered 5-0 at Barnsley.

I'm not sure we can call any team in this division "lowly" at the moment! Their record does give us hope of three points tomorrow, I think we will get them!

According to their official site, only 49% expect them to beat us, with 18% opting for the draw, and an unbelievable 33% thinking we'll turn them over.

That's a real lack of confidence against a team next to the bottom of the league, with 1 win in 17.

I think we are not at the stage where we should drop a player who “does not do much wrong”. We need to be sure that a replacement will do better. In Lawlor’s case he could play relatively poorly yet still be a better bet than TLT who often hasn’t “done much right” recently.

You are effectively saying more or less the same Reg. There is merit in not tinkering and advantages in keeping consistent combinations. Choosing between Sterry and Nixon could be seen as the biggest selection headache.

Neither Lawlor or Nixon have done anything to deserve losing the shirts.

Agree with this. And Sterry when he is good is very important to us.
