Funnily enough BB, I was thinking to myself only a couple of weeks ago that it's about time I had a damn good wander around the town centre again.

I bet the Mason's Arms in the Market Place  really is NOT in any way at all like it was in the mid to late 70's!! Christ. What a place it was... Still a decent pint of Tetleys though - even if absolutely nothing else in there was decent! Remember them bogs...? They'd be declared a health hazard these days.

He was filmed chanting and singing with the Scunthorpe fans at a social club over Christmas.
He started at Scunthorpe after being turned down for being to small at …DRFC !!

Was in the Masons on Friday night, it's been updated and gentrified, but still a decent pub . The little Plough however, bar having a Tele will be just at the same and has a cracking pint on

The story goes he was told the racecourse was over the road. I saw him play for Scunny (I was living there as a kid) A quick winger, I saw him get taken out at the thigh by a nasty defender, he bounced up off the floor, punched the defender out and left him rolling about and walked straight off the field, he knew he would be sent off. A tough lad, I hope that fighting attitude helps him through.

Hey Bob. Masons fan as well. Its changed quite a lot but not beyond recognition. Moved from Donny 40 years ago but always gravitate back to the Masons. The taxidermy has long gone, so has racing fan Terry, probably the best landlord there in the 80's, but its still a great boozer. The bogs are still a bit crap and great for it...and they've opened the back bit where that funny door used to lead to nowhere – There's another bar in the courtyard with some open space which is pretty good as well. Its not the same but what is? Its still a great alternative to the churn it out Wetherspoons approach and never fell into the pub as disco bar trap.

It’s being sold this year to the guy that owns the new Temple bar next door.
He’s already bought the Marketplace Alehouse which closed at New Year.

Rumour is that he also want the Queens.

I was in Mason’s on Friday, visiting family - long
drive from Kent. Really disappointed that they no longer sell Tetleys.

Crikey! No Tetleys in the Masons? That's illegal. So is selling the place. That weird door, the muck, the bogs, the beer, the not plastic people - they all made it a proper pub.

Thanks chaps. Cracking memories of Friday nights for a couple of years staggering round the town centre pubs and ending up in the Masons - before work and earning a living and stuff got in the way.

I’ve just realised that I was at Keegans last game for England, against Spain in Madrid in 1982. He’d been injured all tournament and if I recall correctly, was travelling to and from West Germany trying to get his back seen to. England needed to win to go through and at 0-0 KK and Brooking were brought on with 20 mins to go. KK missed an absolute sitter, a header from about 7 yards that he sent wide. In between avoiding the Police with their guns and locals with their knives thats my main memory of that game.

KK was dropped from the squad for the next England game by Bobby Robson and never played for England again.
