lets see if it works next time the green monster rears its head
- that didnt work so next attempt

On the laptop have saved my log in details and logged in 6 times in my browser - all lined up like ducks - so if one gets the monster the other 5 might not get it straight away. we will see

If people are serious about a new fans forum it should be a clean sweep with none of the current mods etc etc involved.
Isn’t that throwing the baby out with the bathwater?
A lot of people have contributed a lot of time and effort over the years to set this up and keep it going. Surely their experience is of some value? It is a thankless task being a mod looking at some of the abuse hurled at them in the past. I certainly wouldn’t fancy it.

They have banned far to many posters for not sharing their points of view.

Ten to nine right now.
I have tried a couple of times during the day to access the forum but that blastered Green Monster wouldn’t let me in.

I don't think that is true, but I guess there's no way to know for sure.

I do reckon there's a lot of jealousy around the positions that are held and others would soon get sick of the thankless task, were they to take it on

There are quite a few names you don't see on the forum anymore. Quite a few of them as a result of being banned.

Amazing how many new names appear spouting the same shit though

Back on topic a bit....

What is the craic with this cookie issue then? Is anything being done in the background? Like others, I don't really want to lose this forum. Is there a solution? Does it require funding? Can we have an update from someone in the know please?

Theres a Doncaster Rovers sub reddit. Currently has 100 members, it doesnt seem too active at the moment, but could be a good viable alternative to here

It does seem a bit odd that none of the VSC hierarchy have been online or enlightened us as to what is going on?

It's an absolute mystery, EfD. The VSC are normally very transparent in keeping us in the loop about everything.

I sincerely hope this isn't the end of the forum.

I agree, other than Silent Majority coming on and saying he's seen it (for the first time... Really?) there hasn't been a word from any of the Mods, disappointing to say the least.

Don't think anyone has a clue who the mods are to be honest...

Think I saw a couple getting off Lambretta’s last week.

I see my name is being bandied around, but I don't have any responsibility for the running of the forum.

However what I do know is that the 'techies' have been looking at resolving the immediate problem, as indicated by the thread chasing the same subject in the Forum issues section.

Meanwhile a forward path has been found and investigated with a view to migrating to a new platform, complete with all your existing posts. Creating a new forum isn’t that difficult, but making sure all the historical posts, and users tend to want to refer back to previous posts going back years, that takes a little more doing. That's the current issue that is holding things up, especially seeing as the person responsible is extremely busy on other things at the moment.

I will chase it.

Good news. It's good for the VSC to have its own independent forum rather than just ending up on some big tech megasite like Facebook. At the same time I understand that creates a burden on the people building it who will put their time/money into it only to get it in the neck whenever anything goes wrong.

To be honest the site has been creaky for ages, it happens. It's been basically the same for the best part of 20 years, that's unheard of in internet terms. Pretty sure I was still at school when I first started visiting! No wonder things are starting to fall apart a bit.

It seems to be whenever the site is busy that the cookies stuff kicks in, during the match on Saturday it was a waste of time, I tried last evening about 6 pm and again, gave up.

I appreciate that this is not on one of the Facebook type platforms, and would prefer it to stay that way, but is it possible to get it fixed? I couldn't even think how it could be done, but good luck to those that can.

Thanks SM, I sometimes resort to typing in the search box the complete destination such as Viking Supporters Cooperative Viking Chat which if successful then skips the home page and takes me directly to there.

I use FireFox, win11, adblock. It may help some.

I thought DuckDuckGo might be the answer, but on bad days it’s no better. (It seems very peaceful tonight.)

No-one's posted for the last 45 minutes. It looks as though most people are cookied off again.

Let's be honest, this problem just cannot be fixed by anyone. If it could, it would have been done by now.

Surely there must be some real savvy techies out there , who would be capable of creating a new Rovers forum. If it costs money, I for one would be more than willing to chip in with subscriptions, and I'm sure others would.

Please.

Totally agree, SS.  This forum is an important part of many people's daily life and the random nature of this problem is a real blight for us.  I along with many others don't do Facebook or other social media platforms so totally reliant on this one.

Just that if people want to make a financial contribution that’s the easiest way to do it.

Doesn't the ability to post on here require membership anyway?  Those of us already subscribing are the ones most adversely affected by the problem of the cookie monster.

You don't need to be a VSC member to post on here. It's open to anyone to sign up and doesn't currently cost anything.

That's a point worth reminding everyone. However frustrating this or any other technical glitch is, it's a free service provided by the VSC. Overall it's worked really well over many years and has a wide cross-section of fans on it. There isn't anywhere else with the same coverage as far as I know.
