Anyone watching the final?

And i thought our game had a dramatic finish... one of the most ridiculous international games I've seen.

Only following by text commentaries. Plenty think it stinks but I’ve not seen it with my own eyes. Any thoughts?

Crossed my mind he deliberately gave the keeper the chance to save the penalty.

Farcical end to the game.

I think Senegal walking off/Mendy mind games got in his head massively and he wanted to humiliate them. Surely you don't deliberately miss the chance to win a major international final even in those circumstances.

Just an extraordinary series of shameful decisions. Goal disallowed for Senegal was soft, penalty decision was soft, walk off from the Senegal team was just appalling, panenka penalty embarrassing…just absolute chaos.

If you’re his teammates you’d be fuming, he was trying to be clever, it backfired on him, last minute pen to win it, just hit it hard and high

A great watch for the neutral though! Enjoyed that, esp the worldy winner but WTF with the ref? Apparently Morocco have had every decision go for them all tournament as host nation but thankfully the winning goal was worthy of winning any game. I almost thought the Moroccan penalty was missed on purpose it was so terrible, Mendy just caught it! But the tears and desperation on his face after told me he was trying to be a clever shit and it backfired!!!

A sign of things to come in the World Cup? Any team scoring against the US get an extra 10% tariff maybe? We’ve already seen the farce of the WC draw so anything is possible with trumps biggest fan being head of FIFA!

The way the Moroccan players went down for both incidents is like they knew the ref had been paid for.

The one way we European countries can stick a huge amount of egg on Trumps face is to boycott the World Cup.

Gutted I missed that match sounds ridiculous.

None of the Senegal players celebrated the penalty being saved...almost like they knew it was going to happen.

Wouldn't have thought that would be your kind of thing. Such a lack of  racial diversity on show (have these African FA's no targets or quotas for white people?).

No commitment massively announced pre-match to gay rights,  no rainbow laces, no Palestinian tea towel wearers or flying of a 'Palestine' flag. No signs declaring something about trans?
No  obligatory Slava Ukraine!

Seems to me AFCON needs input from some arsehole of a UK HR department,  maybe that's just shit inflicted on others, or maybe they're racist and think Africans incapable of 'diversity' just yet?

I sincerely and profusely apologise to anyone reading this thread. I didn’t realise that by mentioning my (genuine) concern for the upcoming World Cup that I would stray too far into ‘politics’ that it would trigger such an Orwellian diatribe as we have all just had to endure.

I vow to never mention anything even vaguely concerned with the P word again on this forum, not even football related. As TFE suggested above, please come back Cookie Monster to protect us all from having to read such nonsense. Thank you.

Imagine if Harry Kane had done that in the last minute of a World Cup Final, don't think he would ever step foot in England again!

If it goes in you're a national hero and a football icon forever. Scoring a cool penalty in the 24th minute of injury time after all that drama? It's the stuff of legend. Problem is, if it doesn't go in, you look like a silly sausage. That last bit probably doesn't go through your head if you've got an ego the size of a house and the Senegalese team are living rent free in it though.

We did wear brown shorts in an away kit circa 1978. Yellow shirt too. Described as banana and chocolate. An atrocious combination.

It ended up being the training kit in the early 80’s

I remember us wearing it when we beat Barnsley away 1-0. I think Stan Anderson might have just become manager then. I remember us being crap up to then and fearing re election as we were so near the bottom.

We wore it at Darlington in the last game of the Anderson miracle rescue season. Darlington fans were singing a sing about us looking like a bunch of bruised old bananas. And they weren’t wrong. Kit wise it is still amongst the very worst.
