At 28 he’s in his prime. He’s proved what a versatile player he is but if you’re a chairman or manager of a Championship club & you listen to his interviews you know you’d also be getting an intelligent player & person.

When we get to summer signings they need to be good. Good enough so that we show real intent on Championship football at the end of next season. That I think would keep Owen on board.

He also has a ‘special relationship’ with Mols on & off the pitch. His family love the club & the city. All these things will weigh our way.

However, if a Championship club comes for him & offers £4 million well, you have to take it.

£2 million, jog on.

Some mental figures being mentioned in this thread. Will be surprised if he doesn’t leave in the summer and what will determine a good deal is how much we get upfront and guarenteed.

I don’t think his goals will affect any championship clubs views on him/his worth, they will know he isnt likely to hit these numbers in a tougher league and he isn’t their main man like he is here. It is his versatility and his availability/durability that will peak their interest and those qualities come in at a lower cost than goals.

£1.5m stacked in our favour (minimal add ons) will probably be the best we can hope for and about right imo.

If a championship club come in for him, which I believe they will, we will not be able to keep him.
I would hate to see him go, he’s a great player but also very nice guy and it’s fantastic that he’s been able to progress with us after such a bad injury.

He needs to be in midfield on Saturday. So Pearson needs to come back in for sure.

He was in midfield against Orient.

Byrne won’t be allowed to play at the weekend so I’m guessing Padge meant Pearson should come in rather than Bailey drop back.

Ah, that’s fair enough.

Done some research on recent L1 to Championship moves that were be similar to this hypothetical Bailey one, with him having a year left on his deal at 27 years old.

Harvey Knibbs. Central midfielder. Reading to Charlton. £1.8m.

- Aged 26 at the time
- Had 1 year left on his Reading deal.
- 43 apps 14 goals 6 assists in 2024/25 L1 season.

Ethan Galbraith. Central midfielder. Leyton Orient to Swansea. £1.5m.

- Aged 24 at the time.
- Versatile like Bailey.
- Had 1 year left on his deal.
- 42 apps 6 goals 7 assists on 24/25 L1 season.

From this you can conclude that £2m is realistic and that £4m would be ludicrous.

If he continues his goals and assists at his current trajectory he will finish on 17 goals and 3 or 4 assists.

He will ONLY go if HE pushes for it.

If thats a championship team then cant really blame him.

To run the football club in a semi-sustainable manner so that it continue to be healthy when he is no longer the chairman.

The business of the football club and TB’s personal fortune are two separate things.

I understand that. But sustainable clubs find young talent bring them on and sell them on for a good fee with a decent sell on clause, usually with the next in line or a back up plan prepared. Not sell your captain and heart of the team when his commercial value is decreasing.

He is of much more value to us leading this team than some money in the bank that wouldn't cover losses or be used to replace him.
