Wow. That's quite something. That's stuff that no manager says in public unless they are under big pressure.

Saying "We've had problems with our goalkeeper all season. We need a man in there" in an interview is really poor stuff, when you as manager have signed a string of 20-22 year old keepers.

Mind, he has previous on calling out players in interviews.

Compared to Grant’s post match interviews (who must have been as frustrated as hell with most results this season thus far) Wellens demeanour in the technical area & his post match comments well, the man’s deranged.

Just watched it and it’s not as bad as I thought. Just speaking the truth about where they are. The keeper probably agrees with him to be honest, young keepers need taking out of the firing line when it’s not going well, he’s probably ready for a break.

Looks like a month of frustration built up.

Rovers now mid-table in the form table. The bottom places in the form table are almost all the other bottom five sides. There is a world of difference between us and them at the moment. Need to keep this going.

In the interview he says he was "going to change it on 25, the system wasn't working and thats on me"

Personally I dont think thats bad management. If something is wrong and he sits on his hands thats bad management.

Technically a good manager who knows what he wants and how to play football but sometimes too forthright when he can't always get what he wants and the pressure mounts. Backs himself into a corner and sometimes compounds it by burning bridges.

McCann deals with the inner frustrations much better.

Love the guy for who he was and what he did for us as a player, and I still think he was dealt a no-win scenario as a manager, but I’m glad we have Grant in our dugout and I have an unshakeable faith that we will be mid table in a few months.

They broke their transfer record fee in the summer and signed someone who only a few years ago was a regular for Brighton in the Prem (Connolly)! Maybe he should have spread the budget about a bit.

Of course if the team was doing well that would be down to him not the players, and as he said himself he’d be getting linked to every other Championship vacancy. Then when it’s bad it’s self-preservation.

Great player for us but he’s not a exactly a likeable chap.

That was a weird one and pretty rash IMO. Basically gave us half time to react to the changes as we knew who'd be coming on. If he'd just waited 2 mins until half time we'd have had less of an inkling of how they would set up 2nd half.

He did get to the playoffs with a mid table budget last season and he’s won the L2 title with Swindon.

He’s obviously got faults, some pretty big ones, but as a coach he’s exceptional. The way he sees football and the way he can get teams playing is really high standard stuff.

The funniest thing I heard last night was at half time when two of our fans were talking about Wellens and one said he was a shite player when he played for us.

The fact that he’s honest is a breath of fresh air I think. Nearly all managers when interviewed keep plenty back. Not sure being as open and honest as RW is publicly is the optimal strategy but I find it really interesting to listen to.

He was the same as a player, I never listen to player interviews but I always made sure I listened to his.

I thought he was very honest, possibly too much, but he saw the game as I did and was very complimentary about Rovers.

I wouldn't disagree with any of it and while he did call out individuals, particularly the goalkeeper, it sent a definite  message to his board. Whether that's a wise thing to do, in terms of man management,  or for his own career  at Leyton Orient, is  another debate.

He did  acknowledge his own failings albeit he insinuated his options were limited, which he often did at Rovers.

Certainly  more refreshing than many of our former managers, particularly  Saunders, who was quick to say opposition goals, eg conceding from corners wouldn't happen again as he could sort it ( they did- he didnt) He was also somewhat in the McCann school of believing  every half opportunity  we created was a glorious  chance.
 
Then there was Ferguson  who loved lambasting the officials ( again something McCann is no stranger to)

Wellens is obviously  frustrated, and I wouldn't  be surprised if he walks but I found his interview honest and entertaining.

I like managers who say it as it is. At the end of the day hes in the middle of a scenario where he needs help to bring players in and fans who pay good money to watch them. That was the worst performance i have seen from an away team god knows how long.
