No.
But those doing searches were useless, could’ve smuggled a fridge in.

They were very keen after it kicked off between the two Rovers fans. One older guy took offence to a younger lads opinion on a couple of the players and attacked him. The stewards were keen to get involved even after it had calmed down.

Unfortunately if you give a tabard & a badge to ‘an ape’ you’re going to get that sort of attitude.

Burton obviously go for ‘muscle’ in that role as opposed to calmness & common sense.

All I said was I need the water for medication, offered to take the lid off. There was only me and my lad going through at the time

Strange. I’ve just replied on a another thread about an aggressive steward at Belle Vue in 2000.

It was my first visit to Burton Albion and I was very unimpressed.

I arrived early because I didn’t have a ticket so I wanted to make sure I got one on the day.
The ladies in the ticket office were fine but they hadn’t yet received the returned tickets from Rovers so they couldn’t sell me one, and asked me to come back later.

So I wandered around the stadium footprint to get a bite to eat and a pint.
The only place open was the open-air music tent in the main car park. I made my way there and was stopped by a steward at the entrance.

“Ticket?” he asked.
I explained I didn’t have one yet because the Rovers bus hadn’t arrived with the returned tickets.
“Are you home or away?” he asked.
I explained I was a Rovers supporter, hence why I didn’t yet have a ticket.
“It’s home supporters only in here” he said.
So I asked where I could get a beer and something to eat around the stadium.
“In the away supporter’s area” he said.
I asked if I could get in there without a ticket to which he said “no”.

I said “I’m 68 years old and I’ve driven two and a half hours to get here, surely you can let me in to get a pie and a pint?”
“No” he replied. “That’s the rules and something might happen”.
I said I’d take off my Rovers hat and keep my coat zipped up and stand quietly in the corner but he was having none of it.

This exchange went on for a few more minutes until I told him politely that it was a disgrace and that even though “rules are rules” there was always room for discretion and initiative.

So Burton may have a smart little stadium, but they proved to be very unwelcoming and they can f**k right off as far as I’m concerned.

And we won.
