Never seems to get the credit he deserves. Totally changed the game for us, got stuck in and broke up their play.

Unsung hero.

Just my thoughts when talking about changes that need to be made at half time, I'm glad that Gotts didn't come off immediately for him, the two (or with Broadbent as a choice as well) present a gritty midfield, protecting the defence and pushing the forwards to get stuck into an opposition's defence.

Clifton has seriously been one of better most consistent performers this season. His energy is great... sometimes that's all you need in a game effort and energy can make all the difference.

Club record when Clifton has played in League games this season.

P24 W10 D4 L10. PTS 34 PPG1.41 - about 10th place form.

When he hasn't played

P8 W1 D2 L5 PTS5 PPG 0.63 - Bottom of league by a country mile and relegated in March form.

He was class today. Injected so much energy and bite into the midfield.

He was brilliant but none of the ht subs need singling out, they all changed the game.

Always surprises me when a player like Clifton gets left out of this type of game. Fair enough he can be a walking card machine at times but his energy and bite is made for this type of match up.

If he had a bit more composure when on the ball he would have played at a higher level.

Will the ref be in trouble for allowing him to play like that? I thought they had to ensure that blood has to be stopped and cleaned off?

He had a head bandage on after the goal, obviously took it off at the end.

I said to the lads I go with on the way to the game I’d make 2 changes.. Adelakun for Gibson and Clifton for Close. So let’s forget my first change eh!? Clifton is tailor made for a local derby. How McCann doesn’t see that escapes me. He dragged us back into that game with the intensity he played at. Those 2 or 3 50/50 tackles he made (winning them all) in the space of about 7 seconds I celebrated like we had won the league. He’s a red.
