Current top half
« on April 16, 2026, 06:11:32 am by Chris Black come back »
Only current top half side we have beaten outside of local derby games was Reading last week. Quite striking if you look at who we have beaten - overwhelmingly sides that have ended up struggling by the time of the final shakedown.

Coincidence that the players don’t try against the good teams.

Or maybe that the sides in the top half have proven to be better over the season?  That’s why they are where they are?

It’s interesting because I have had a belief for a while that playing better teams suits us but on this the evidence is the opposite. That said if we take the derby games out of it that is quite a lot of games this season.

We’re in a strange place where we are best on the counter but not good enough at it to beat better teams (ones you’d expect to dominate the ball more).

Basically we need the summer to increase the quality in the squad to compete better. Imo we should focus on a smaller and higher quality squad. We’ve only so much money and having 2 senior pros for every position at a proper standard is a luxury we can’t afford.

Current top half victories this season have been Barnsley, Huddersfield, Bradford City - and Reading. We’ve had generally an excellent run of form in local derby games this season which has probably given us an edge against these better sides. When that is removed, the record is poor.

Pessimist, we can improve this record against Lincoln and Stevenage.  ;) :scarf:

Apart from a few games this season where we have been well beaten
Wigan,Wycombe and orient away
Cardiff and Plymouth home
Could also add Exeter away but we still had chances and 2nd half against Stockport at home.
All other games however we played there has been nothing really between the sides at all and shows how tight the division has been this season, even the teams up near the top haven’t really been anything sprain against us with the likes of Bradford,Stevenage, reading,Luton and Huddersfield

Huddersfield away when our form was good showed how our season would unfold. We played well first half of the game and into the start of the second half we couldn't score even though we created good chances Huddersfield scored 2 goals in the second half. We had played well for the majority of the game yet we couldn't score. This has been our Achilles heal most of the season games we have had good possession yet failed to do the most important thing and score even though good chances have been created.

But if you beat teams near the bottom it stops them getting points, better off beating Blackpool than Lincoln

Wouldn't you have thought that an Achilles heal would get better?

We need a Rob Street type player in our squad next season, that would make a big difference to our results.
