As much as I find the analytics of recruitment interesting, I can guarantee you I’ll never be a recruitment analyst at a football club, and there are many reasons for that!

I can imagine you wouldn’t want to be seen as the fall guy when statistically excellent signings turn out to be unsuccessful - far too many variables you can’t control.?

A new position being created within the club.

https://www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk/news/2026/april/17/vacancy--recruitment-analyst/
What will be the remit ? Is this replacement vacancy or a complete new job . I think the job requires some negotiation skills as clearly we’ve been sold some lame ducks recently!!

It marks a change of attitude at the club .Hi tech data gathering and analysis is an added value to the recruitment and overall performance assessments ( from what I tead  ) and it’s good that we are marching with that progress .

Very interesting. Looks like Grant has either realised his own limitations, decided he's off, or Gavin has pulled rank.

It’s potentially a small step forward, but a journey of 1000 miles starts with one step.

Analysts don’t improve teams. Creating recruitment structures that have consistent, robust processes and clarity in operations improve teams.

Getting the balance between “data” vs “eyes” is the key. Do the “eyes” challenge the “data” or does the “data” challenge the “eyes”?

Impossible to lead with data unless a process is strictly mandated and managed from the top of tie club. No edge can be gained by an analyst pushing ideas up, it ends up with only certain bits being selectively used by those above.

Certainly progress and another commitment from GB an TB to improving operations on the football side.

Surely good value to do a Lincoln, buy data for £10k and then do the ‘eyes’ and ‘character’ test.

It’s not having the data, everyone uses it, it’s how you use it that makes the difference. No point in looking at the same stuff everyone else is is there?

Yep! So back to basics, someone who can spot a bloody good prospect. Clearly Lincoln have that as well, as they’ve bought data everyone else has (as you say), and found the players others didn’t.

I love it. This release has done exactly what was intended.

You think Rovers are guna be advertising on Indeed or our own site for a new data analyst?????

Its to shut the mugs up and get em off GMs back.

IF we are going along the data route, which Im fine with, we wouldn't be inviting applications, we will have someone in the industry in the know already.

Christ on a bike.

Without coming up with ideal player profiles in each position to suit a desired style of play data is pointless.

You can clearly see what Lincoln went for. That suited their style of play and budget, allowing them to overachieve.

The team needs a vision on the playing field. Then you can use the data effectively.

Another factor is who will be the one ultimately picking from the candidates? Hopefully their golf handicap isn’t one of the interview questions.

We already have people in place, it's adding to the team or could be replacing someone who is moving on.

That’s a crass remark & given the credentials of Terry & Gavin I’d want to know what you base it on.

We'd have to rename the road around the Stadium, I'm thinking Bournville Boulevard.

As long as the appointee gives a considerable weighting to the overall footballing skills of a potential recruit  rather than a mild mannered, pretty faced footballer then he/she can have the job for me.
