Lee isn't ours.

Cant plan to build a team around a player we may not even be able to have back next season

I hope Lee decides to sign for us.
I have to say I have been impressed with Jack Senior, and Sean Grehan looks a good prospect now he is playing as a centre half rather than as a full back.
Maybe add TLT as well.

Good player. 32 later this year. No resale value. Absolutely not a priority for our limited budget.

Lee will be on about 15 grand a week at Wrexham at the minute, but suppose it’s way to spend sumone else’s money, and that’s before we bring anyone else in

I’d happily see Lee return to Wrexham IF we get a proper striker in this summer.

Needs:
Absolute priority
GK
CB
AM
Striker

Less of a priority
New LB, new RB, CM. LW, striker

4 permanent, 5 loans (and I mean proper loans).

The value of a player isn’t necessarily about resale revenue, it’s about what he delivers on the pitch for us.

If we were to sign Lee, he would be easily our biggest wage. Paying that money is only justified if there is a resale value. Repeat, he will be 32 next season. A good player, but not an investment priority and anyone who wants to make him our highest paid player is absolutely crackers.

If hanlan was the one who missed the chance in the first half and not lee, he would have battered on here.

Lets be straight here.... we've had a 38...now 40 year old as our main strike threat...

With Lee now proving his fitness I think there will be a number of potential suitors. At his age probably the length of contract would be more desirable than the highest wage he could get. He'll know he'll have to compromise. As much as I would like to see him here again, I think he'll choose elsewhere unless he's really enjoyed his time here,  built a good relationship with McCann and been sold a project.

Not until he's been able to prove he's robust enough to stay off the treatment table.

Frankie on a free - he is out of contract.

Lee, can see he has some class BUT massively lacking pace and will be very expensive. Came when he wasnt fit, 20 games later he still isnt fit......I will be dissapointed if we sign him because he will take a lot of our budget.

Byrne - has looked decent but when we were so poor. We need to aim higher, and now we get mid table L1 we can aim higher.

We need
1xKeeper perm
1xKeeper loan

1xCB perm
1xCB loan

1xCF perm (Frankie?)
1xCF loan

There will be more movements in and out than that.

It’s the last year in his career that Lee will be on 5 figures a week, so he will 100% see that contract out. He will go out on loan again somewhere and he will have more clubs in for him that will afford a chunkier contribution. Could see him back at Luton where he’s loved, under Jack Wilshere if they stay in league 1 as is likely.

What has Frankie actually done to justify us wanting to sign him on a permanent? I get using loans with a view to a permanent deal (hahaha) but it ended up being a total disaster of a loan signing.

Before he got injured he’d just started to show why Everton paid good money for him as a teenager. We won’t be signing the finished article at this level, certainly not a striker anyway.

Not really, if he helps get us into the championship then it’s money well spent even if he leaves on a free in 2 years time

An injury doesnt make it a disaster of a signing.

O-lasagne was a disaster of a signing!

IMO frankie looked perfect for us in the games he played and he ran his blood to water.

I'd have him back in a heartbeat

I was excited about his signing and I get that about not signing the finished article but we’re literally talking here about 4 hours of football here for us and I just wonder if we are guilty of overrating that small time simply because any improvement felt so huge given what we’d suffered with before him?

Ignore the injury and just focusing on performances… Looking back was the upgrade  a case of going from terrible to ok? And if so is ‘ok’ really what we want?

Of course it does. An unfortunate one but a disaster all the same. We continued to struggle there and stayed in a relegation dog fight until about game week 41.

Again, we’re talking a sample of about 4 hours game time and at a time when we had genuinely atrocious options there. Just worry any improvement will have been magnified following that shower of shite.

Signing Frankie might be a decent idea, as long as the analysis of his hamstring problem was positive and our wonderful medical team know how to keep him right, but it also shows we need to sign another striker too. I wouldn't like to be reduced to Hanlan playing CF for 3/4 of a season, we could be staring another fight against relegation if we rely on his contributions.

Its all easy in hindsight and thats what the fans do. Its so difficult trying to fix to budget options, choices, battling against competition for signings and this is for every squad position.

Who ever mccann wants doesnt mean we can attract / sign them dependant on what they have been offered elsewhere, family location, a boat load are out of mccanns control. If he desperatly wanted to sign Lee or any other player they are the types of problems he will come up against. Then we have to move to the next and the next. This is the same for every club, thats why quite a bit of the time signings dont quite work, not because they are bad players, not because cash has been wasted but because it hasnt quite worked. And has you all play the game after the event after you have watched the player for 25 games, your nowhere near in reality.

From 6th September, after we beat Bradford, to 1st January before facing Bolton, our record was P17 W1 D3 L12.

A) Let’s appreciate the turnaround we’ve made to secure our place in the league with games still to play.
B) That run of form should be front and centre in the club’s thinking when it comes to “splashing the cash.”

Hopefully Senior and Clifton sign new deals; as for the rest, it’s a case of thanks but no thanks, with a few still under contract put on the transfer list. Some tough, cut-throat decisions are on the way.
