Bit of an over reaction to our limitations from some on here.
I agree with Pancho, Lincoln are not the benchmark we should aspire to, they’re a one off in this league, much like the Lincoln team under Taylor in 75/76.
Credit to them, they’ve found the players who fit their system, big, powerful and relentless with a sprinking of skill out wide.
Not pretty to watch but very effective in this league, but that approach can only go so far.
Lets see how they get on next season against better sides.

Bradford are a weird one, every Bradford fan I speak to seems to say they’ve not been very good this season at all, yet they are where they are in the table.

Haks was embarrassing tonight didn’t look like a footballer once. Think your harsh on Hanlan, who was one of our best players, and Broadbent who was better than Gotts in his half.

Yes we may need better but tonight’s game didn’t seal their fates

Hanlon showed some great touches holding ball up , against 2 massive units at some points

I'd much rather loose to Lincoln last night than Leicester next year

I agree but their build started under their now manager from 2023. So we build from next season Grants ambitious but must be realistic we need to get at least 6 players in all better stronger taller than what we have.

I don’t get this view that their approach will see them struggle. Gravity is against them anyway so it’s odds on they do regardless of style but imo their style gives them more a chance than a team intent on playing total football.

How many times do we see a team go up and struggle conceding weak goals trying to play out from the back like they did the season before.

If you’re going to be out spent and outclassed your best chance is to make it a fight and uncomfortable without giving anything away. The promoted teams in the prem have done better than normal because they’ve not tried to replicate possession football from the previous season for a change.

I’m enjoying more teams move on from trying to copy Pep with players who can’t do it.

You know, home fans get searched and scanned with a wand every game, Lincoln fans still managed to get pyro in

I made exactly the same observation last night Filo.

I’m 68 years old and me and several other old gimmers were searched and scanned at the turnstile (I was terrified I’d have my HobNobs confiscated) and yet, before kick-off, the first of several pyros were set off by the Lincoln fans.
I think that first one was set off in the away concourse, which is really intelligent.

By the way, I think TLT was one of our few players to come out of last night with credit.
He made some great saves, especially the penalty, and for a long time was single-handedly keeping us in the game.

While the class of Lincolns players might not please everyone their work rate and team ethics and how they acquire players and how easily they fit each others style of play must be admired.
We had what looked like players that were right for about three different styles of play cobbled together by comparison.
Not one of our players last night would have got in their squad apart from TLT. many of them just not able to fit their style of play.

There were pyros when we won against Bradford last season, so its clearly not difficult getting them in, even if you are searched.

Sounds a lot like our team with Dean Saunders. Big horrible centre backs who would head back bricks and David Cotterill out wide.

Personally that was one of my favourite seasons watching rovers and would love another that was that exciting.

Not gone as mad as I did at the winner at the end of the stevenage away game since!

I can’t recall a player from a visiting team getting a better reception from our fans than the one that Rob Street got.
He even got a rendition of his song from last season.
Booing and name calling is the usual thing.

Lincoln were promoted in 1975/6 then had 3 average seasons in Division 3 before being relegated.
The 1975 season was a cracker for them but they finished 9 th the following season then went downhill.

It was good to hear that!.

As usual though, a couple of morons stood just up from us in the south stand shouting abuse at him every time he came near.  :headbang:

It was an incredible reception when he was substituted. The fact he didn’t acknowledge it was really poor though.

Looked like he just acknowledged the West Stand to me. Clearly knew that's where our best fans sit.

I also said that Gaz but one of my group said that he raised a hand in a meek type of acknowledgment to the south stand.
I have to say though that I expected more from him.
