When I was a kid on cup final day TV coverage used to start about 10.00am with interviews with players etc as a build up, then when it got close to kick off the streets were completely empty as we all sat around our TVs to watch what was the pinnacle of the football season. I haven't watched a cup final now for about 10 years and I can't be arsed to watch to cheat teams (financially and in their play) "battle it out" just for a chance to qualify for much more money in Europe. The players and management don't give a damn about it until the quarterfinals and insult the rest of the football clubs in this country by only putting out reserve sides, like they are forced friendly games. They can keep it.
I always used to say, tongue in cheek, that I'd only go to Wembley if Rovers were playing. Back then, the only chance of that would be Rovers reaching the FA cup final! At least I kept my side of the bargain and actually only went to Wembley when Rovers were playing. And what a day that was!On the downside, having the play-offs and the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley has made the venue feel less special. As a result, it is no longer the Mecca it was, and the achievement of reaching Wembley has become somewhat diluted.
I might watch the game today, seen as it is probably going to be raining in the afternoon and gardening will be out of the question.I agree there is much less of a razzmatazz about the day, hours and hours of build up, special question of sport etc, tv cameras in helicopters following the team coaches to the stadium etc..It’s not the same..

Cup Final day was also a big event for me until a few years ago.I had also forgotten it was today until I saw the news this morning.I will be doing a nice cliff top walk around Flamborough today.
