League One transfers

Just a thread to keep track of transfers and comment on them.

Bradford have signed Jake Beesley as their new no.9. He would have really suited what Grant asks for in a no.9. The smart time to get him may have passed though.

MK in advanced talks to sign Charlie Goode from Stevenage. I wonder if we were after him.

Transfer fee for Beesley not in our remit
Would Goode want to move North and probably get a better wage at MKD
We going have a lot of competition to get players that will get us near promotion whether Grant wants to.

Even last year MK Dons were paying top dollar to such as Aaron Collins who left Bolton for more money the same with Dan Cowley leaving Notts Count from other clubs, and blow us out of the water on that subject to get two top lower league players.

Max Power going back to Wigan from Bradford City but will have to pay a fee as he still has a year left on his contract.

Genuine question, how many of the Bradford team are really better than what we have already?
Not many have hit me in the face as quality, especially in defence, and when they are scouting Bailey and Molyneux is the boot on the other foot and they just try and collect other teams players and throw them together?

They are all about having a more physical set of players than everyone else. Light years ahead of us physically.

Max Power - not in the same class as Stefan Kuntz and Chiqui Arce, but still a great name

Think Gibbons was the Cambridge player of the season.

Gaz, Flint had Cook and the rest in his pocket and he got the monk on, and they don't want to mess that way with Faulkner.

The keeper and front men need sorting out and a real class play maker would be the icing on the cake.

I’m not sure any top notch playmaker is going to look at our tactical set up and think “that’s where I can exceed”.

Jake Beesley to Bradford for a fee I dont think thats great business. Dont rate him, our defenders kept him very quiet from memory.

Mansfield signed Jon Russell

Notts C signed Cal Roberts, 40+ goals in 2yrs at Scunny.

Would've been interested in both of them personally......but Im sure we will start finding out soon.

Anyone know when GM back off his jollies?

With 3/4 weeks before the players report back for preseason let's see what level of player we can sign I appreciate loans may come later.

More to ‘good business’ than amount of goals scored recently. We should know about that!

Cal Roberts is 29 and half of them goals were in the 6th tier. Can’t be asking someone to make that jump up at that stage of their career.

Really strange one IMO.

Budget will dictate who we are looking. Personally have non issues at all of us taking a chance on lower/non league players. Agree regards age profile of them but needs must.

There will be some good frees out there.
I’d go for Okoronkwo and the cm we had from spurs the other year . Both free agents this summer

Matty Craig? Wasnt aware he was released but would take him on.

Frankie I'd like to see back, he looked good in the short time we saw him.

We don’t have to sign players who ice played for us before.

Getting a better quality of loanee is really important to our season. I don’t like us been so reliant on loans but for the last few years we’ve had poor signings on loan generally

Agreed on the robustness point. Player availability is such a huge issue.  Okoronkwo appears to have hamstring issues.  Big red flag.

Obviously some players are more genetically predisposed to injury than others and all players will pick up injuries from time to time.  However, these days due to advanced sports science, the ones that stay fit (see Owen Bailey) are generally the ones that work and train the hardest and are the most professional in their approach.

Two words. Alfie May. I am sure Birmingham are grateful for his services in League One, don't dismiss players because of where they play when you recruit them, Leicester and England have not forgotten Jamie Vardy either.

I’m not against non-league signings, I suggested the boy Abdulmalik a while back for example.

Alfie May was 23 when signed from non-league. Vardy was 25. That’s very different.

The only requirement is, no matter where they come from is that they are good enough.
We got McIndoe from Yeovil and Coppinger from Exeter who were spot on as players for us and were non league I think at the time.
There are good players playing for poor teams all over the place, one thing is recognising them, and getting out to watch them.
