The best thing that happened to Alfie was leaving Doncaster Rovers.
With us he was not at the time as good as the other front men, especially in front of goal where he snatched at chances.
Couple with that the new manager didn't fancy him, wanted his own men in for most of the positions in fact' not just up front, and if you were out with him you were out.
Also we were heading for a poor period when he might not have had the chances he had to become the player he became playing elsewhere.
He became a good player and credit to him, and my reason for hoping he does well here if he comes back, and would be a signing showing ambition on the clubs part as they will have overcome stiff opposition to sign him from other clubs also throwing their hats in the ring because of the player he has become.

Welcome back, Alfie!

Just like the last time you were here, ignore the philistines.

It was very obvious to most (other than daft Darren and the Marquis worshipers) that Alfie had potential unfortunately he was never given the opportunity to develop here. If this rumour  develops he should go well with Hanlan.

I’m often amongst those who are complained about for “negativity”, but I’m surprised how much comment is slanted towards the disadvantages of Alfie coming back.

As regards his fitting into what is seen as McCann’s system, this assumes that McC is so inflexible that he will not make adjustments. If we are to make the play-offs we will need to be rather more dynamic and start scoring more goals than last season and Alfie could well be the key and McCann will need shape the system to accommodate him. Sharp was not signed as a 90-minute striker and consequently he had to fit into McCann’s “system” rather than the other way round.

What’s the saying….. “don’t fall in love with a loanee” or something along those lines. But I for one is happy to see Alfie back at the Rovers, he didn’t want to leave in the first place, but was forced to to due to Big Dave not playing him enough

Happy that it’s a loan, gives him motivation to have a right good go of it. Be interesting to see what tactical changes McCann makes to get the best out of him. He’ll not be long in the dugout if like last season he’s got him chasing about defenders trying to get the ball off them on his jacks.

It's nice to see Alfie back at the club and good luck to him. Now let's see who the other striker is going to be....hopefully a permanent deal whoever it is!

Seems unlikely that they would want him back (unless of course he scores for fun) but I wonder if the loan includes a recall clause.

I fear he does really well and gets recalled in January either to play for Hudds or someone pays more of his wages (or buys him).

But let’s not worry about that now.

Still need a striker to rotate him with and keep him on his toes. And one to play against Huddersfield.

I think he’s here not elsewhere because he wants to be (well durrr, but you know what I mean) so doubt if there even is a recall clause that he will ditch us for somebody else.

Agree with this, yet it says season long, so hopefully no term in there to do so.

Futher additions will be coming. Its getting exciting and we are putting a decent squad together.

Hopefully the next 4 or 5 make a real difference too.

Mccann dies have a cheeky confident grin on his face this year, whike the fans all bring everything down straight away.

I think May had size 9s on the last 3 years and we only have size 8's so i dont think he will play very well.

Glad to see more positivity on this one though.

Good character ✅
Knows the club ✅

3 out of 5. Solid McCann piece of business.

"outstanding character"

Doesn't excite, but welcome back and time will tell, I don't like the resigning of past players, move on for me

One down five to go. Next week should be busy! They don’t all have to be for pre-season, but it will be a massive help if we can get 2 or 3 more signed by the start of pre-season and especially getting a keeper (or 2).

According to Peter O’Rourke, there’s a fair few L1 Clubs looking at Bailey, including Sheffield Wed, Stockport, MK Dons. I can’t see Bailey entertaining going to another L1 outfit, when he’s already captain of one.

Alfie’s interview is well worth a watch, especially anyone who has doubts about where his loyalties lie.

Great news. Alfie was never less than a 100% effort player when he was here before, if he shows that again it will be a brilliant signing. It's great when you sign a player who is a fan of the club.

Whether we can adapt the system to him (or whether he can fit into ours, playing off Hanlan or using his running to make space for others) aside, on paper this is a good signing. Can't complain about not having proven quality up front now, that's for sure.

We shouldn't be signing him, really, because he never should have left in the first place!
Everyone knew that except Darren.
Yes, Alfie has said he would have taken any contract offer Moore would have offered.

Excellent signing, welcome back Alfie, we will look far more threatening going forward with him in the side, let alone a few others to come in. Knew this signing had legs weeks ago after being told he had spoken to Grant.

Great interview by Alfie - welcome back and all the best. He clearly holds us in a higher regard than I thought.
He has a clear passion, I hope for us all Grant plays in a way that helps him.
