Anyone elses PS3 gone tits up? Suposedly a firmware error relating to dates (?millenium bug type)

Sony have ballsed up big time.
They've advised everyone not to turn on their PS3's until further notice as it may mess up your offline gaming, which for me sadly it has.

After reading several articles today, they're not going to be finding a fix anytime soon either.

I only found out about it this evening, after I had turned the bloody thing on and tried loading MW2.  :angry:

According to PS3 forum one of them have been told if they can not fix the bug they will have to replace all old consoles

Well, if it comes to that, they best accept consoles without a receipt, coz I have no chuffing idea where mine is?

Its wiped my trophies ans saved data. Not impressed.

It's meant to have wiped off your level on mw2 aswell Rob so we will have to start all over again

Read about this earlier, but fortunately I haven't played my PS3 online or otherwise for a good 10 days or so. Surprised not to have had an e-mail from Sony about it - they send me enough PS3 & PSP e-mails when they're trying to flog stuff...

Its not just online. Its a system error caused by the clock. Happens with offline games aswell.

Only effecting the older models though, not the new slim line ones.

Depending on who you listen to, Sony might not be able to fix this at all. There has been a lack of communication from them, with alot of media silence.

Mine is almost as old as they get - the PS2 game compatible 60Gb model.

I just thought - I watched my newly purchased 'The Damned United' DVD (fiver at Sainsbury's) on it a couple of nights back. Hope that didn't cause any mischief!!

I won't turn the thing on again until I know it is safe, but I certainly hope it is fixable - I don't want a new one - I won't be able to play my PS2 games!

Anyone played the online demo of Battlefield Bad Company 2?  Its superb.  Preordered the full game 3 weeks ago, and got an email it was dispatched today.  Can see a weekend of blood and tears and MW2 players moaning that they cant do it! lol!

unfortunately im a bit of a purist with games, so i wont be able to play online on the ps3 with you guys, first person shooters are STRICTLY pc based for me. i pre ordered bad company 2 a month ago so iv been playing the pc beta for a few weeks, just waiting to get these night shifts out of the way so i can have a blast on the retail release.

also, for anyone who is interested, the issue with the ps3s was its internal clock somehow thought it was a leap year, so one part of the console was saying \"hi, its feb 29th\", and the other part was saying \"actually....its march 1st\"....\"FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK\"...no bother though, it sorted itself out at midnight, sony didnt do anything haha
