SKY friend or foe?
« on March 09, 2010, 02:50:18 pm by Lytham Rover »
there is a furore going on about sky and their decision to switch the plymouth-newcastle match from saturday 17th to monday evening on the 19th

NUST (supporters trust with 30,000 members) is up in arms about the difficulties that poses for the fans to travel to see the match in the article it also says that they have had 18 televised matches this season

doesnt this amount to the proverbial \"financial doping\" as they must get a financial reward per match televised  as well as the sponsorship spin-offs higher profiles etc

discuss

Of course Sky don't want Newcastle fans there. Sky wants them to watch it on...Sky.

There is an alternative argument here as well, by switching this particular fixture it could be considered that they are inconveniencing the fewest supporters possible. I know it doesn't make it right though.

I know that it's a long way but I wonder how many Plymouth fans were reaing forward to this game. Newcastle look destined to go up so the opportunity to visit St. James Park might have gone for years. I suppose most will be happy though as they can now watch on tv.

SKY have no ethics

SKY are in football only to make money from football. They couldn't care less what the Newcastle fans think. They couldn't care less about most aspects of football, they won't care how much their money skews the game as long as they can broadcast and market games amongst 'the big four' and other such sides.

SKY will not have thought about who is inconvenienced the less, SKY will have thought as Glyn Wigley pointed out, about the potential audience figures.

the game is at home park not st james' which is why the NUST (newcastle united supporters trust) are up in arms

a few years ago, Rupert Murdoch asked his son what he wanted for Christmas. his son pondered a while, and then said 'a new game please'. so his dad bought him Rugby League.
