Norwich City Season Ticket Sales
« on March 11, 2010, 11:30:38 am by ptaylor-red »
Theyy really put our attendances and support into perspective. Just saw on Sky Sports News 18,500 sold already. I know they are ex prmier league but to say it's only March and they could yet be playing league 1 football next season that'sd a great effort.

Wonder if they have a gimic such as free season ticket next year though?

They just have really good local support. When there isn't another team within 60 miles though it's a pretty big catchment area, the locals of Norwich don't really have much other choice do they? Not like us who have to compete with the Sheffield clubs, Barnsley, Leeds, Rotherham, Chesterfield etc all within 30 miles.

38 miles between norwich and ipswich. Would a few not travel to ipswich for the championahip football?

I wouldn't drive the best part of 80 miles for a home game 23 times a season (I know there are many who do, but that's just my opinion). Besides, the majority of their STH's will already be Norwich fans, they aren't going to go support Ipswich are they?

What you have just said is akin to you or I going to watch Hull for a season just because they are in the Premier League. It wouldn't happen would it?

Very loyal base, they'd sold 18k this time last year even though they were about to be relegated.

I don't think there'll be many Norwich born Ipswich fans, historically I don't think theres been much between the sides except for the Bobby Robson era. Not like the years when we were a few divisions below the Leeds/Sheffield clubs.

Responding to DaveDRFC valid point but what about all the doncaster people who would travel to wtach leeds every week when they were at ahigher level?

Difference the leeds fans from donny have stayed with leeds instead of watching a higher level of football

That's the point though, once someone has picked a team they generally tend to stick with them. It's pretty difficult for a football fan to change allegiance once they have started. So those fans who chose Leeds way back when are not going to ditch them for Donny, same as Norwich fans won't suddenly go and support Ipswich (who just so happen to be their biggest rivals).

Not a chance in hell of that happening.

Norwich = Norfolk
Ipswich = Suffolk

Both counties have a bitter rivalry.

This obviously isn't the case though with our support and a great number of people that watched other teams for a time or others that stayed away from football have come back to the Rovers. Our home crowd has increased roughly 4-fold in the last 10 years from 2,000 to around 8,000 now, there can't be another club in the country that can claim such a growth in numbers.

Unfortunately though this growth in attendance has been outstripped by one key thing - the improvement in the team and its league position and we are now playing in a level beyond what our current support base can sustain. Its going to come down to simple maths at some point in the future, either more turn up and shell out or we'll inevitable see the fortunes of the team dip as JR and the KM2 cannot keep chucking cash down a dark hole to keep living the dream that it appears only 8,000 out of 250,000 Doncastrians want to be a part of.

Sorry if that sounds a bit negative when things are currently going so well but i cant see any other solution.

The BS fund showed just how many are prepared to stump up - we managed £3k, now its a nice gesture from a close knit group of diehards on here, but nothing in the scheme of where we are, not even half a weeks wages for a player like BS and unfortunately i can see the ST's being about as well subscribed.

Norwich supporters are some of the most loyal in the whole of football, they say it's in the blood..When we give our hearts we do for life over here you see.

Plus we are a very territorial people, we don't tend to move around so much as other counties I guess..

Must be the good Iceni stock we come from..lol

I don't know what it would take to ever get the main base of fans to ever turn their backs on Norwich FC.

Odd woman that one, still I guess you can't say she isn't passionate about her team... Cringeworthy isn't it.

Hold on Dave...I travel at least a 90 to 100 miles for every home game, and there are quite a lot of others that I know who are not a spitting distance away from me. Plus one of the lads I know travels all the way from Rugby for every home game.  80 miles a'int that great a distance in my opinion.

I did say that was just my opinion Ray...I drive from Sheffield and that's enough for me 23 times a season. I do enjoy my away games though and have clocked up some miles the last couple of years, I just wouldn't fancy that kind of mileage every single home game! As I say, that's just me and I appreciate there are many exiles who do this and I applaud them for it. Just saying, I don't fancy it myself!

I'm the same with work, I couldn't face a commute but thousands of people do it, sometimes the 10 minute drive home after a 12 hour shift is too much for me. Don't know how some people do it!
