Newport County

What a season they are having. 8 games to go, mid March and effectively already champions (they need to lose every game, someone else win all of theirs, and have a swing of 48 in goal difference against them)

But it was a long hard road for them - more than 20 years since they went bust. Portsmouth, Cardiff, Southend be warned. Also Chester seem to want to be re-born in the Welsh league - ironic with Newport going to court with the FAW to stay in the English pyramid.

Always good to see - especially for their fans. Can't forget how close we were.

My all time favourite Rover was signed from them - Laurie Sheffield. I guess he will be happy with the resurgence as well.

Apparantly there's a lot of money being pumped in at Newport (for Conf South level anyway).

Didn't Peter Kitchen once score a fantastic goal there?  I think BobG might have been there but I'm not sure.

I remember going to Newport in the good old 4th Division - funny old place with some funny old fans.

Do any of you remember their little firm who all wore white butchers coats?

You're right Woking. And Brian. best goal I have ever seen. By anyone. Anywhere. Any time. Tony Currie on steroids sort of goal. 3-0 up after half an hour with Brendan getting a towering header as well. Then we threw the towel in and to win 3-2. And I spent the entire night trying to sleep in the car in thre Forest of dean. It was bloody FREEZING! Still the greatest goal ever though.

Used to like Somerton Park. It wasn't pretty, but it was a good place to go.

I saw Newport play at Worcester on a Monday night a few weeks back and they were clearly a cut above the rest. County won 4-1 without having to move into second gear, in fact to be honest they never really left neutral. Holdsworth has assembled a good squad and they've got a good crowd behind them as well. Think they had over 4,000 tonight.

All set up for two good Welsh derby matches against Wrexham next season.

Thought that was Millwall.

Remember going to see Huddersfield v Newport back in the 80s with a mate who supported Huddersfield and saw some absolute carnage that day - butchers coats certainly wouldn't have looked out of place!

I may end up going to Newport on Monday night if I can manage to crack off a fair bit of work before then. A draw against Havant & Waterlooville and they are officially promoted.

On the subject of non-league clubs, congratulations to Durham City today!

Rigo ... never use the phrase crack off in any of your posts for a while. It conjures up horrible images for the sensitive
readers

mutley iam sure the butchers coats talked about were worn by lads from many different
firms during the early 1970's i guess

wall might have started it but like 'owt else it soon spreads across the country like a bush fire down under
