Players to leave?
« on March 21, 2010, 06:59:03 pm by big fat yorkshire pudding »
Looks to me like a few of our players are being edged out.  Obviously Heffs and Guy look to be on their way in the summer but some others seem to be looking likely to go.

The main one..... Spicer.  Hasn't featured for a long time now.  Surely he must be frustrated?  Jordan Mutch has been ahead of him of late and that must be a bad signal.  I expect he'll be on the way come the summer.  Mcdaid hasn't had a chance, he's another that could be heading for the exit and both young keepers haven't had a sniff either.

Brooker?  How much more patience is the club to have with him aswell.  Then there is Lockwood who's only featured in fits and starts.

It's going to be a busy summer I feel in the transfer market.

Yep, can definatly see a bit of a clear out this summer, for players like Heffs, Guy, spice and little macca.
Brooker would be a good player to have fit but its getting him fit which is the problem. Might be better off getting rid and freeing up some money for new players wages...ehm Billy Sharp ehm  :P

I wouldn't be all that bothered if Spicer left, he was great last season but started very poorly this season and has fallen a long way down the pecking order. I reckon it depends to an extent on the whereabouts of Oster, Stock or Woods come August.

McDaid has been injured for a long time and deserves to be on the books and prove his worth and commitment to the club in my opinion. The lad is 110% every time he plays and a great talent. Lockwood is a solid performer and excellent cover (maybe time for a resevres team give an extra incentive for STH's too)

I would free up Brooker, unfortunately Heffs, Guy and Spicer and 1 Keeper (not Suli. However if we dont get Billy or someone of similar class then Heffs would be better here, yet he wont wont to come back I feel.

Spicer is an interesting one, when he cracked first team last season he looked an important player for us with his dribbling ability and workrate, maybe all that went to his head and the vision that somes him up for me this season is the first day at Watford he came out with white boots on, the no 10 shirt untucked hanging down and he looked very overweight he gave me the impression of a player who thought he'd made it! he was wrong.

Spicer has frustrated and disappointed in equal measures, for me.  When he plays he really should be more effective than he is.  Can leave for me.

Off the top of my head, players out of contract or at end of loan deal this summer:

Neil Sullivan
Ben Smith
Gary Woods
Gareth Roberts
Sean McDaid
Sam Hird
Adam Lockwood
Jason Shackell
John Oster
Mark Wilson
John Spicer
Mustapha Dumbaya
Jordan Mutch
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas
Billy Sharp
James Hayter
Paul Heffernan
Lewis Guy

Other important players that are saleable assets entering the final years of their contract will be:

James O'Connor
Brian Stock
Martin Woods
James Coppinger

Obviously it is not ideal to see the above enter the last year of their deals as it means all could leave for nothing from the end of this calendar year.

To say this is a big summer for us, and something of a crossroads, is an understatement.

Thought we'd got Copps on long deal 2014? I could be wrong

As far as I'm aware Coppinger, along with O'Connor, Wellens, Mills and Stock, signed a three year deal in the close season after Wembley.

Of the ones out of contract at the end of this season, I think we should be going out of our way to keep Sulli, Roberts, Hayter, and Oster as those 4 are vital players for us. I'd say that Locky, Hird, Spicer and McDaid (Hird in particular) we should look at sorting something out for as all have something to offer. I'd like us to keep Heffs, but it doesn't look likely. I'm not a fan of Wilson, although SOD will undoubtedly offer him a renewed deal so there aint much point me discussing that, despite my views on the player. Dumbuya, Woods, Clarke and Fisher are all young players who I haven't seen very much of so I can't really pass judgement on whether they should be given new deals. And in my opinion we should definitely look to get shot of Guy and Ben Smith.

Out of the 4 on loan, I'd love to see Sharp, Shack and JET back here next season, but I very much doubt that we will get BS and JS, and JET coming back on loan very much depends on how Arsenal value him in terms of his contribution to their first team next year.

I also think we should possibly look at sorting out extensions for some of the guys out of contract in 2011. (O'Connor, Chambers, Stock, Woods, Copps, Fairhurst.)

I've got to agree. All those deserve a new deal even McDaid who will be performing at his very best to thank us for faith shown in him with his injury problems.

Smith should be offloaded he isn't a championship player and so should Guy, I am one of the few who like lewis, he runs his socks off tries his heart out but as a goalscorer not up to it. Would love to see Heffs stay as well but doesn't look likely.

A few of them have new contracts but the club don't announce them, that's the Rovers way it seems.
