Anyone got Wilson for MOM v Newcastle?
« on March 23, 2010, 10:05:15 pm by Thinwhiteduke »
I wouldnt have thought so.

Isnt it advisable to look up and make sure a player is available before passing a ball to him?

Otherwise you may just pass it direct to an on rushing member of the opposition, leaving your team woefully short at the back, and therefore directly contributing to your opposition scoring, what turns out to be the winning goal.

Apart from his ONE mistake he had a good game, on the other hand how did roberts get the MOTM? he gave the ball away more times than wilson, i would have gave the MOTM award to oster!

Who said get rid of him?

He's a fair squad player usually - cant look at anyone else to blame for the disastrous pass that led to their goal though, it was School Boy stuff simple as that.

Totally unfair on the lad, he made one mistake and we got punished, up to that point he was our most industrious player, and after he went off we were totally ineffective

sorry but you got to feel sorry for wilson who in my opinion was working as hard as oster in midfield and up to that point was having a good game, it was noticable his game was deteriating after that point which suggests to me that he was well aware of his mistake and that it bothered him, shame really because he has come on so much this season and im sure he will continue to improve, overall a good performance

Oster had to be MOTM, not a fantastic game but a good bit better than anyone else on the pitch, in midfield we were terrible today, we are supposed to be a good passing side, today we were poor.

Woods was well off his game   :(

I agree with that, gave the ball away numerous times and apart from one shot he couldn`t hit the ball properly

Oster was sublime, a real 90 minute display. Bad mistake from Wilson, especially given the last few weeks he hadn't been playng those silly balls.

Woods has been frustrating the hell out of me for the last few games but he's not long back from injury so maybe I'm being harsh on him (although perhaps those who sit in Row X aren't as forgiving when he shoots).

Good performance against a side with some really good players - wouldn't say they are a gelled, slick side though, certainly don't have the synergies we have. Some of the Hayter/Sharp/Oster play in the first half had them chasing shadows.

I thought Wilson played his usual game - passive, not interested, in the place but never in the tackle. The bad pass meant we lost the game, but the amount of 50/50 balls he's second to is pathetic.

If Hayter had held the ball longer and not got rid straight away to Wilson he might not have made that pass.
Wilson had a very good game up to then. Worked very hard and created opportunities for the team.
Oster was very good but I feel as though I've been mugged by an inept lino and a Ref who bowed to Newcastle's every whinge.

Do you reckon? I think having a 'ball winning' midfielder who cannot win the ball is pointless; if we ad a decent footballer in there we'd see the benefit.

Wilson wasn't great tonight, but he wasn't bad either. I don't think we played badly...Oster was by far our best player mind. The full backs and Hayter were really good too.

Wilson's pass may have led to the goal, but JOC put him under pressure...and on JOC, he and Martis need to stop doing useless long balls, not one of them found a Rovers head, they're pointless.

oster was MOTM for me tonight too.

going to be honest though, even though wilsons stray pass lead to their goal, i thought he had a really good night up to that point, i think he DID push the ball forward, he DID create, and he DID get into the tackles.

Wilson had another good game today, just a shame about that one insident.
Its a disgrace the way the majority act towards him...anyone else gives the ball away theres not a sound but everytime wilson does theres booing...most likely the same bunch that boo lewis guy.
When someones wearing a rovers shirt support them, dont constantly whinge!

We took a neutral with us tonight and at half time he said he thought Wilson and Oster were our best players.  Wilson is underated in my opinion, there have been games when other players have misplaced passes more than Wilson.

your right, it is the same bunch, and its west stand 'b' section, they ask people to go and sit and sing with them, but why would anyone want to do that when they dont even support there players on the pitch?

its the same with guy! i think wilson was proberly 2nd or 3rd best player today Oster MOtM then close between Wilson and Billy.

what west stand 'b' see is beond me and about 14,000 other fans aswell!

Wilson isn't a good enough passer of the ball. Bit of a handicap when you are at the heart of the midfield isn't it?

I'm going to get endless stick for this, but Wilson really infuriates me. Once he makes his first good tackle/pass/contribution to the game, it goes straight to his head, and he tries to be a world beater. At this point he starts trying to pull the strings, and he just isn't cut out for spraying passes around the pitch. Hence the numerous passes given away, one of which cost us the game.

You must have gone to a different stadium to me, Wilson was one of our better players and gave the ball away no where near as many times as Woods did!

Didn't deny that Woods gave the ball away too much. The thread aint about Woods is it? No, it is about Wilson.

Fair enough, your opinion is that he was one of the better players. I disagree, but that is the brilliance of football isn't it. If everybody took the same viewpoint, there wouldn't be much point of a forum.

Hope you are sitting down Filo but I have to agree with you. Up until he gave the goal away he was playing well. Unfortunately after his mistake his game went downhill.

Time to take the blinkers off? That's strange IMO, coming from somebody who thinks that Wilson is of Championship standard when put at the focal point of the midfield.

I'm ever so sorry to have had a different opinion to you.

John Buckley was a good player, wasn't he?  And he's famous for spotting a talented player.  Hang on...John Buckley?  Jobbing footballer and crap girl's football coach...?

I don't see how his comments hold any more weight than us on here.  Wilson is not a Championship quality footballer.  If he sprinted after every ball, wound up the opposition and tackled with his face he'd be everyone's favourite player.  Loyal and adequate yes.  A skillful winner, no.  I could forgive his lack of skill if he tackled with his face.

How is Wilson not a good enough passer of the ball?!?

He's one of the better distributers within the midfield.

His game did go downhill slightly but it isnt suprising when just about everyone gets on his back

The word i am thinking of when people mention Wilson is......scapegoat! Fans will always pick out the bad things he has done in a game no matter if he has a good game,  if sharp, stock, shiels or any other player has a bad game or does somethings wrong in a game it hardly gets mentioned  but when Wilson does something wrong people go on and on and basically it pisses me right off.

Er, because he gives it away every time he tries to pass it further than 5 yards.
