Mark Rankine, Sean Joyce & Paul Raven.

As for non-Rovers players, Denaby & Mexboro have a good record

Ian Banks - Barnsley
Kevin Eley - Rotherham & Chesterfield
Alan Sunderland - Cup winner and famous blasphemer at Arsenal.
Mick Prendergast - Sheffield Weds.

I once read that S Yorks had the highest per capita number of pro footballers born and bred in it's boundaries of any English county.

John Bird definitely played for the Rovers.

Dave Cowling as manager... he was one of the several managers we had during the 97/98 season

Mark Samways? Pretty sure he was a local boy! Went to Intake Middle and Danum so definitely stakes a claim for Donnyite, not sure if he was born round here tho!'

I hesitated to say Stainy lad as even though I knew him well from my time in that paradise of a Pit village his dad a Builder erected a big pad (still the first house on the left on the way in from Barnby Dun) but I had a feeling they moved in from elsewhere

The dad, Gordon I believe used to play himself for Askern Welfare (guess guess guess - not a fact)and so I have him as coming from there and so Steve may have arrived into Stainy on 2 legs rather than dropping onto 2 legs if you know what I mean

Sammy was brought up down Clay Lane somewhere. I know that 'cos he went to Curlew primary to start with where my Dad happened to be Headmaster at the time. Dad always liked Sammy - both as a person and as a goalie.

I'll go with two lads from my year at school, Adie Moses and Neil Illman. Moses was on schoolboy terms at Rovers and was deemed not good enough and was sent packing. Played for England U21s and for Barnsley in the Premier league, so yeah, well done Jim Golze!

Illman started at Middlesborough and became a bit of a journeyman, never really fulfilling the promise he had shown in his youth.

Martin Harris. Winger, left Danum in 1972. Didn't play for Rovers, but started off at Grimsby and ended up at Workington. He played for them that time we beat 'em 7 something.

From Rosso I believe and got me a ticket for Workington v Rovers with a mega crowd of 892 ? A 1-1 draw ?  It was cold and the pitch was half covered in Frost (not Mr Frost) throughout the game

Guessing a lot tonight but mid 70;s 75 76 ?

Edlington born and a Wolfie !!!!

Played for Eng - er - land loads of times at Right Half and was an ace penalty taker in the days when England used to play against Teams like Mexico and drub them 8-0 and the Manager probably Walter Winterbottom was probably quoted as saying \"there are no hard games in International Football\"

Sounds right Wolfie. He was indeed from Rosso. And he would have been playing for them about that time. He was in the same class as me too :) Wonder where he is now.........?

The two greatest players, by general consensus, Alick and Ian, to have ever played for us are from Rotherham. Good.
