Hi all, a friendly Sheffield United fan here. I realise I am asking a lot here but could anyone possibly help me with these Doncaster Line Ups & Scorers please

Wed 15th May 1968 - Rovers 1 v 1 Sheffield United - County Cup Semi Final

Fri 17th May 1968 - Rovers 3 v 1 Sheff United - County Cup Semi Final Replay

Fri 9th May 1969 - Rovers 0 v 0 Sheff United - County Cup Final

Mon 20th April 1970 - Sheff United 2 v 0 Rovers - 68/69 County Cup Final Replay

Fri 7th May 1976 - Sheff United 1 v 2 Rovers - County Cup Final

As I thought, my records and the Supporters' Club Handbooks (normally an excellent source for stuff like this) are no help on the other three games. I will have a dig around in a few old programmes- but I won't have chance till Friday.

Ah, What a team that was. The one that got me going week in week out. Add Joe Laidlaw and Alan Murray in to that and we started to kick ass !

Seemed rather strange later on in life when I played in the Sunday league with Stan Brookes.

The plot thickens!

I have in my possession a programme from the game on Wednesday 15th May 1968. The result and scorers are marked in the centre page. However, it is shown as 3-1 with Flowers, Webber and Jeffrey scoring for Rovers (Barlow scored for Sheff U). These are the details for the replay- played two nights later on Friday 17th May. The 15th May game ended 1-1. It may be that there wasn't time to print a fresh programme and they just handed out the one from the original game.

Line-ups were as follows:

Rovers: Morritt, Wilcockson, Clish, Gray, Robertson, Flowers, Rabjohn, Warboys, Webber, Johnson, Jeffrey. No sub listed.

Sheff U: Hodgkinson, Badger, Shaw, Munks, Mallender, Barlow, Woodward, Carlin, Hill, Currie, Reece. No sub listed.

Referee: G.C. Kew (Leeds). Linesmen: C.Taylor (Conisbrough) and S.R. Jackson (Denaby Main).

Just had a look at Dennis Clareborough's book on the Blades that gives all their line-ups. The one I listed for the 67-8 game is not the same as the one which turned out- which is a downside of relying on programmes for the line-ups.

Also, I wasn't able to find the Rovers' line-up for the replayed 68-9 Final (actually played at the end of the 69-70 season at Bramall Lane.) Ironically I found a full report on the 69-70 semi-final (which I attended) between Rovers and Rotherham played a few nights earlier at Belle Vue. Rovers led 1-0 at the break with a goal scored by a 17-year-old called Alan Machin- making his senior debut. Rotherham equalised in the second half with an own goal from another debutant- Stan Brookes! At full time it was 1-1 and everyone expected there to be a replay, but by agreement the teams played half an hour's extra time and Rotherham scored the winner through Dave Watson (then a young centre-forward but later to play centre-half for England.) The man who put over the cross was Rotherham's right winger and star man on the night- none other than Neil \"Colin\" Warnock!

PS: I'll pop down to Barry Watson's programme shop before tomorrow's game and see if I can find any progs from the games in question.

From Dennis Clareborough's book the Blades' line up in the 15th May game was:

Gordine, Badger, Munks, B.Wagstaff, Mallender, Barlow, Reece, Carlin, Hill, Currie, Salmons (Hill scored the goal)

The line up for 17th May was:

Gordine, Heaton, Munks, B.Wagstaff, Mallender, Barlow, Holmes, Carlin, Hill, Currie, Reece. Sub (used): Fenoughty (Barlow scored the goal)

Therefore the Rovers \"line-up\" should be treated with care as it may not account for late changes.

I have 2 Denis Clarebrough books on The Blades, thats where I have gathered all my United information from.
I recently visited the Wolves site for a couple of their Line Up info and was directed to a superb Wolves Stats site. One of the games I asked about The Gibraltar International Soccer Festival in 1976 [Tony Currie's last ever game as a Blades player] apparantley the Wolves historians new nothing of this tournement, a couple of days later they had found it and sent me the info that I needed. Owd Denis Clarebrough knows his stuff mate
