SOD interview on RoversPlayer
« on April 08, 2010, 06:41:06 pm by Snods Shinpad 2 »
Sharp probably out for season. Muscle tear.

Asked if we'll sign Sharp. Doesn't rule it out. Depends on Sheff Utd. He can run contract down, are Sheff Utd willing to let that happen? DRFC board are still undecided about budgets for next year.

On Heffs: had a chat with his agent earlier in the season and the valuations (wage demands) were miles apart. Tried to be fair with him. He'll be getting offers from elsewhere so it's up to him to decide what he wants.

or is this just his greedy agent calling SOD's bluff, stay on same wages or go to league 1 on even less?

Simples......

That is my only critasism of SOD, what ever their personal relationship is SOD can not (Billy asisde) say that Heffs is not a championship player

FFS he proved this last season..... SOD be proffesional and do the right thing

Like it or not he is the best striker on our books, or shall we sigh Locky as our main striker (no offence Locky)

I don't think Rovers would want to offer him anything more than a 1 year contract and not on improved money. Bristol are more likely to offer him nearer than what he wants so, I will be suprised to see him here next season.

SODs comments about budgets ar very general but hedid say that the board have not committed to any budget at this stage.

The inferance is the board are waiting for the response on season ticket sales. I think we can take it for granted then that there will be a smaller budget for next season and the lack of response on ST ticket sales will be blamed, rather than the board raising prices and making it more difficult for people to afford !

Agreed there DonnyBaz, it is clear that if Heffs were to stay at the club he would only be regarded as third or fourth choice striker, with us more likey to extend the budget for a first choice striker. This is also the first time I have heard Sean say that he thinks we might buy Billy - an interesting summer ahead methinks.

I would be willing to bet that Heffernan will not be playing in the Championship next season, he will sign for a League 1 club. So obviously it's not just SOD who doesn't think Heffs is good enough for the Championship.

The Paul Heffernan situation has been discussed to death on here.  Simply - O'Driscoll does not rate him.  He only played him last season when he was forced to, and he proved himself.  He was dropped again this season and with Sharp coming in, SO'D didn't HAVE to play him...and now he's gone.

It's got f**k all to do with wages.

Personally I think Heffs has had a raw deal.  A fantastic player for us.  I'll cheer for him wherever he goes.

PDX, if you read the post at the very top of this thread then Sean has been talking to Heffs agent about a new deal, but they are miles apart in wages. What you have written may very well be true but there has never been a quote from the manager to that effect but there does seems to have been an attempt by Sean O'Driscoll to keep Heffs at Rovers.

This is the way that rumours start I believe

I spoke with O'Kelly about Heffs and the responce i got was he could be a top player but is a fool to his self at times. When i asked what do you mean by that he drove off. That was on Wednesday afternoon at the training ground. Imo  there is a lot more to it than sod not liking him.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned or heard this, as it adds more analysis to the whole striker debate.

On Trax FM on Thursday there was a piece/interview with Sean. It was obviously only a snippet and maybe did not get the full interview or maybe out of context, but what Sean said to the reporter (and this is not a direct quote, but summarises the piece)..... was that they would like to sign Billy, and if they didn't then they would like to have a very similar player (as it suits the system so well), and that neither Hayts nor Heffs is that player. Now he wasn't dissing either of those 2 and made compliments about their game, but they weren't Billy Sharp. It seems to me (if SOD/ROK are still here) we will be trying for Billy or a like player in the summer to lead our attack for next season.

Adam LeFondre?

The rumour about Barnsley preparing a bid for him wont go away either.
