Mackail - Smith
« on April 20, 2010, 05:27:30 pm by Shawndrfc »
He is out of contract at the end of the season. Craig is a hard worker and he scores goal, wages shouldn't be that bad as he has had same contract since league 2.

Any thoughts??

It's been said before, what's he done at this level? I don't see how he's much different to Hayter or Shiels to be fair.

He's top end League 1 at best.

We need to be looking for a Sharp, Hooper, Le Fondre, Rhodes, Paynter sort of player.

Those three haven't done anything at this level either, and would cost us a hefty transfer fee.

CMS has scored 8 goals this season. Granted it isn't the greatest return, it's certainly not bad considering that Posh have been struggling all season and have been chopping and changing the management too often, meaning that they have had to adapt to different styles of play etc. I reckon with a bit of SO'D magic we could turn him into a shrewd signing, but I'm not sure he's the type of player we'd go for anyway.

He's exactly the type of player we'd go for and that's the frustrating thing! When plan A with (for example) Hayter doesnt work, what are we going to do? Try plan B with Mackail-Smith? They're both grafters in a similar way to Neil Roberts was / is!

We need a natural finisher of which I consider the players I mentioned to be and maybe a target man that might make it off the treatment table.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I didn't mean he isn't the type of player we'd go for in terms of goalscorer/hard working etc.

I meant, I can't really see SOD going for a player as well known and hyped-up as Mackail-Smith. I don't know how to explain it really, I just can't see SOD being that interested in a player like him. Put it this way, Rovers never ever seem to go for an obvious target, with SOD it always seems to be specific players that he has pin-pointed, and not just any half decent player that is knocking about.

If you looking for on off the wall signing how about Tadgh Purcell from Darlington.  Signed from Ireland in January on a 6 month contract and scoring at a goal every other game.  Free transgfer and no problem with his wage demands I would imagine.

I gave up a long time ago trying to predict who SoD will bring in. He seems to know what he wants and gets the best out of players who you would not automatically think are championship players.
I wasn't particulary bothered about him getting Billy Sharp proves how wrong was i on that one.

intresting that mackail smiths name is being put forward for getting 8 goals in a struggling team.a certain mr heffernan got more goals than that in a struggling team last season but has largely been overlooked since.
