Excellent article that.

I sincerely hope the Championship clubs and the Football League have the guts to tell the Premier League and Sky TV what they can do with their blood money.

About time the Prem clubs were told they are a private club and they are now out of the jurisdiction of the FA,that seems to be what they want. The price would be that none of the players there can therefore represent their countries and they do not play anyone from another football association, ie they are also out of the majority of Europe unless they can persuade some of the Barcas and inters to join them. That would rather scupper Mr.Murdoch and put the FA back in charge of football in this country again.

It's all about greed and self interest. The elite few do not give a monkeys about 'the game', competition, it's structure and it's roots.

The money just helps to overinflate player wages, encourages agents to destablise player contracts so that they can get their piece of silver in transfer dealings and, bugger the rest of you.

The best think that we all could do for the sake of the game is cancel the Sky subscription !

The very reason why I am always abusive to anybody trying to sell me anything from the greedy Murdoch organisation. They sooner we manage to throw his influence out of the game the more honest it will become.

Is it bullying or buying or even both towards the CCC clubs.

A big big carrot to dangle to the likes of DRFC and many others ie a rise from £800k per season to £2.2m. Let's hope Donny know where they have come from and maybe one day go back too.

If it go's ahead, and I think it will....I'm just glad DRFC are in the CCC right now

One Championship club chairman told the Press Association: \"Understandably the Championship clubs were in favour because it means a lot more money for them, but the League One and Two sides are worried it will create a big gap.

Which Chairman said that? Personally I dont see that being the case at all.

£2.2m is a drop in the ocean if you're trying to compete with potentially a dozen clubs with the extra muscle of vast parachute payments.

I just wish the smaller Premier League clubs and the Championship clubs could  wake up and see that this is just another step on the road to mediocrity. What the Big clubs want is a steady supply of cannon fodder, reasonably wealthy smaller clubs who they can beat most weeks.

They haven't got the sense to look long term, they just want to take the money that's on offer now. Their support will grow tired with the lack of success and eventually the gates will drop.

I agree with all that River Don. It might be the wrong attitude from me.....but if we are wanting to compete we are not going to turn down £2.2m, when are rivals are excepting it.

As for the parachute payments, yes it's loose change compared to what they (the relegated prem clubs) are getting..........but I'm feeling a touch of self preservation here. Yes, they'll have a head start on us and others, but we will have a head start on the L1 promoted clubs.

All this is doing is ensuring the money clubs rise the leagues and stay there.

In an ideal world, all the clubs, inclusive of the Prem clubs should tell the Prem bosses to piss right off, but I cannot see this happening yet, but I feel it will come and as to come.

tell that to the prawn sandwich brigade  nothing succeeds like success

everyone likes to be associated with success thats why they get the best sponsorship crowds adoration etc

it has always struck me as odd that the USA sports are forever levelling the playing field with their draft picks to the worst teams in the land where success is all

and in the UK we (as a more liberal nation) have rampaging inequalities in our sports

ho hum

Get over the fact it's £2.2m. It's £2.2m they're all going to get, it's parity.

Then you have what's going to amount to the top half of the league with a lot more than they have now. If Rovers are wanting to compete this proposal makes it so much harder, how can we ever back a proposal like that?

It's not like the club will be any better off financially, since any additional money will just go straight out on player wages.

We are starting to see the effects of these parachute payments already.

Newcastle and West Brom pretty much walked the league this year, with their two closest rivals being Forest who have a wage bill twice the size of ours and who splashed out an additional six million quid closed season, and Cardiff, who overstretched themselves to such an extent they had to steal money from their supporters and are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy.

Now they want to double the length of time teams get these payments?

I can see why a majority of Championship Chairmen are going to take this dirty money. They have overstretched themselves and their clubs are in danger of folding. The long term health of the game takes a backseat. I can't imagine the likes of Wednesday, Palace, Cardiff, Preston, Blades and Watford turning their noses up at money which will insure they are in existence in twelve months. The ironic thing is these clubs got themselves into trouble in the first place because they spent more money than they could afford, because they wanted to compete with clubs who were getting payouts from the Premier League.

Within a couple of seasons of this thing going through, it will be 100% guaranteed that we already know the clubs that will be promoted from the divisions they are in before the season even starts. What's the incentive to watch then?

As others have said, throw those Sky subscriptions in the bin.

More on this:

What's clear is that a new fault-line has appeared in the English game between the Championship (23 out of 24 were in favour of the deal I'm told) and the 48 clubs in the lower two leagues (where there was unanimous opposition).

Quite unbelievable if true, it means clubs like Scunny, Blackpool, Plymouth and Peterborough are voting for it. I hope Rovers are the one Championship club voting against, we might be since John Ryan has been quite outspoken in his opposition to the plan.

Playing Devils Advocate here,

As much as the parachute money is to stop undesirables getting into the Premiership. This 2.2million will go some way in stopping L1 clubs getting into the League we are in, and maybe assists Donny in keeping their CCC status. Very selfish, but a point worth making.

Looking at the L1 clubs, I would say only Leeds, Norwich, Soton and possibly Hudders and Charlton could compete against the £2.2m. If these do that and keep their CCC status, then up to 5 will have to give way to those, looking long term.

Those 5, I would suspect in the long term and in the eyes of a bookmaker, would come from....Scunny, Posh, Plymouth, Watford, Barnsley, Donny, Blackpool, Swansea.

Already, up to 3 of those teams are coming up to where many think they belong.....and we are losing at least 2 of those teams to L1, where many think they belong.

But then again, there is always hope and there is always a Fulham, a Blackpool, a Swansea and hopefully a Doncaster to throw a spanner in the works.
