Nelly
« on May 03, 2010, 09:06:24 am by Barmby Rover »
Just found out (cue the Sheff United replies) that we may have a representative at Wembley this year. Nelly is playing for Luton Town now, he can't play in the semis as he is on loan from York City, but could run out at Wembley if they get through. Good luck to the lad if that is the case, i hope he gets some sort of career on track, he was always a decent player in my eyes, shame we lost him. Mind you, my loyalties are with York City tonight, another win through to the finals on penalties? Maybe.

York will do very well to get through tonight, even with their 1 goal advantage.  I expect Luton to win 3-0.

I don't mind who goes up here, but I expect Luton to win tonight and advance. It would be nice if they went back up after what happened to them to get them relegated in the first place.

It is a shame we got rid of Nelthorpe. I thought he looked a very good player.

Good luck to him in the play offs.

I think we got rid too early.

I hope Waide doesnt go the same way and we give him some real chances next season.

I cant agree with that. Craig Nelthorpe is the same age as me (23). He was 21 when we got rid of him. At what age should SoD say 'you had enough time see you later pal'. He's still struggling to make an impression now. At conference level!

Nelly only got one season under Sean. I think he looked ok in the games he had. Didn't he score in one (Orient?).

He played left back in one and looked very good going forward, but a little understandably naive in defending. He played an excellent cameo at Grimsby in the JPT.

I agree, I thought it was early to release him. But Sean (he knows best) does not hang around with the kids, they either shape up quick or they are released. Interesting to see what happens to Clarke/Fisher in the coming weeks.

I would like to think we will keep Waide, but then again none of us fans thought we would release Nelthorpe did we.

The obvious flaw with Nelly was that he hugged the left side. Sean doesn't do wingers so he was always fighting an uphill battle. It might be why Sean tried him at left wing back, as he likes these. Unfortunately, the defensive skills of Nelly were behind Robbo and Daidy.

Seen Nelly about 5 times in the last 7 days. I think he can make it at a lower level and in the right team.

Wasnt Ameobi 21 when we signed him as 'one for the future' (i might be out on the age) so Sean gives players chances whatever their age. If you have not done it by that age then unless you get a proper kick up the arse and realise that driking and other stuff we all do can wait until the football career has finished then no person will make it.

If you look at what Craig has done since he left us he has in my opinion played at a standard lower than he is capable of but he is now a dad and you would have thought he would realise his responsibilites and maybe his potential so he signs for York and within weeks of signing gets arrested in their city centre along with other players for an 'altercation'

The world is full of wasted talent and hard luck stories.

Gregg Blundell will be at Wembley this Saturday with Barrow in the FA trophy final. I will be there and would love to see him knock in the winner.
