Anyone been to Marmaris who could pass on any advice?

Coming up to Leeds for five days from 10th June for my birthday.  I don't think of it as a holiday more a necessisity (sp) tho...

Holiday is to banal a word for five days with the fella.. It's my yippee-whoohoo-yayday...lol  :cheer:  :cheer:

Went in August 2008, hated every minute of it, be prepared to be hassled everytime you leave your hotel, if you`ve got any teenage girls with you watch them like hawks, the Turkish waiters and bar staff are horrible slimy t**ts, I would n`t go back to Turkey if it was the last place on Earth. dalaman airport is a total rip off, £15 for a big mac!  Have a nice time

Had enough of being ripped off abroad. The last two or three times I went overseas I couldn't wait to get back home for a relatively cheap pint!

Off to Fuerteventura for a week and a European City (not decided yet) for a weekend break in July.

Went to Corfu a good few years ago, very very hot. We stayed in Dassia but did a boat trip up to Sidari. Can't vouch for the night life but the place was nice during the day!

Agree with my inbred friend. I went in 1990. It wasn't the mega resort it is now. However, whenever we laid on the beach or any Brits did, you would immediately get 10-15 young turks gather round ogling the girls.......unless they were looking at me. On that note, I could not believe then, how many of the males were holding hands. It's a customary trait. Cats everywhere. I think the meat was mainly goat or bison or cat. I too, would never go there again, infact make that Turkey. Airport, travelling, roads, people all shite. The only positive was that you can do a day trip on a boat to Rhodes Island.

For me this summer will see my clan going to Ibiza.

Whilst everyone is in holiday mode - some advice if you would.

Looking at 2 weeks all inclusive for the first 2 weeks of August for the family - Me, Mrs Big Lad and 2 kids (3 and 7)

Want somewhere hot but not too hot for the kids (probably Spain or Spanish Islands) where there is enough to do for the kids and isn't swamped with Germans/Dutch. Not made of money, so looking for a bargain if possible - but it will be the only holiday we have this year so don't want to ruin it by trying to be too cheap!

Any suggestions welcome but not liking the sound of Turkey after the experiences some have had reading the above thread

BLIR....Hotel Tanet or Tanit just outside or in San Antonio. It proper rocks for kids and facilities. All inclusive and food, bbq's, drinks ice creams all day. Entertainment all day. Lovely beach/cove.

Excellent staff, and practically all the guests are British.

We've been everywhere in Spain and Spanish Islands and this has been the best. 2nd best is Benalmadena in the Sol, although I forgot the name of the hotel. It is on the First Choice advert and that's pretty good too.

It`s just my opinion mate, you may enjoy it, but if you get the chance take the boat over to Rhodes Island, a far cleaner place and the people on there have got manners unlike the dirty slimeball Turks. Have a day on the Jeep safari as well but be prepared to get wet through and black bright  B)


Another thing I`ve just remembered about Marmaris, we were walking down the street one day and coming in the opposite direction was a Turkish woman wearing one of those robe type things that Muslim women wear, she just squatted down for a minute or two and then got up and walked off leaving a pool of liquid on the pavement, it appears she just had a piss in the street in the middle of the day, dirty Turks!   B)



Turtle beach is another decent day trip, they take you down the Dalyan river to some mud baths and then onto a beach where the Turtles breed, lunch is thrown in as well, the film African Queen was filmed on the Dalyan River

What you have said about the people are exactly what i was told about it at work, but still fancied giving it a go. From what I remember there were no dirty buggers pissing in the street in Sidari though.

I'm off to Santa Eulalia in Ibiza again (same as last year).  Had a right good time, lovely place and lovely people.  Quite expensive though, as there is a marina full of expensive boats and those posh buggers are minted!  Es Cana, a €5 taxi ride away, is cheaper and quite nice too.

Robin Hoods Bay in June for me - same as last year but it was one of the most relaxing holidays I've been on so decided to go back. Crab sandwiches, beer, and ice cream a plenty! Plus plenty of places like Whitby and Sandsend to vist.

I can't get aay this year with having a baby on the way but I would recommend Hanioti in Halkidiki to anyone. Probably the nicest European resort I've been to with plenty of raditional tavernas around the area and really friendly locals. I don't know how/if the Greek economic crash has affected things though.

sunny Benidorm on July 10th for one week with my sister and my 3 kids! absolute rip off but Ive been there before and would rather pay extra knowing I like the hotel etc!

I've been there twice. Lovely resort,but the second time I went, in August, it pissed it down for a week. Which Hotel are you staying at?

EDIT: PS: Caravan in Bournemouth. Don't ask. Suffice to say the atmos can be cut with a knife Chez Stubbs-Tears.

Can Sanso, on the way out of Santa Eulalia towards Es Cana.

I went to the Hippy Market last year - it was more like being in the scrum of Wasps v Saracens.  And if that lot are Hippies, I'm Colonel Sanders.  Its just a glorified car boot sale, where every third stall had exactly the same stock as the one three stalls up, ad infinitum.  Complete waste of time.
