Both.

Despite the fact they can both play the same role I think our best results have come with one up front with one or two attacking mids/second striker in close support.

Heffs suits the one up front role better than Hayter. Hayter can play there too but I feel he likes to be just in support of the main man in either a 4411 of 4321.

How many goals has Heffernan scored for us this season  !

Hayter  gets poor support from many on here , thankfully  the man in charge rates him  not only for his goals but also his work rate for the team.

Before anyone comes on and says  Heffs kept us up last season , don't forget it's a team game.

Don't forget who's goal got us to this level & why was Hayter  playing ? Because Heffs had headbutted a Southend player in  the game before the final.  

If as the few who have answered think Heffernan is so special why have no big clubs come in for him?  he can leave for nowt & only Bristol  Rovers of L1 have shown any interest.

Lets just get behind our club whoever is playing for us in August

Tim, if our beloved club doesn't pull through with the big signing striker we all cry for, then I would like to see Heffs as ours.

Hayter is an excellent addition to the team for me and the role suits him better, but we have others who cover the same role and we may be in desperate need of a Heffernan come August.

Pesonally I think Heffernan is a fantastic player and capable at this level, I would lke to see him with Hayter and Sharp, but its not what we think is it in the end of the day.

Goals in The 2009/10 season:
Hayter- 9, and work his socks off.
Heffernan- 0, doesn't do much.

Not slagging heffs of, but he's not good enough in my opinion.

If I had to choose it#s a no contest. I'm baffled by people who say Heffernan. It hs to be HAYTER all the way, he's been consistently brilliant again this season, has scored 9 goals and works his socks off in each and every game. Heffernan is past it at this level, his recent run proves it. He will do well in League 1 next season but I'm not upset he's leaving, although he has been a great player for us over the 5 years he's spent here.

After just watching the highlights from Sun, and seeing Heffs miss another sitter from 6 yards, would have to be Hayter I'm afraid

If I was messed around like Heffs, I would be half hearted too. I'm sure he is a pure professional, but it must have took its toll on him doing what he did and still getting rejected from us. Then he finds his feet again, and we call him back :dry:

And if you want to look at sitters, look no further than some of Hayter's chances.

I like both players, but goalscorers are like gold dust.

I don't recall as many easy chances Hayter has had this season? The last one I can remember was a header he missed at the backpost at the North end of the Keepmoat (I forget who we were playing?) only Hayter would have got that anyway - if anyone else was in that position and missed it would have been by-the-by I think?

Hayter is the better for me.  But Heffs has been good for us in the past, nobody should forget that, but we have to move on.

Fairly irrelevant really as we can all see SOD has made up his mind.

What did it for me was when I realised I'd seen Heff more times in Elachi than I had at the Keepmoat this season.

Hayter

Heffernan has been a great striker for us, our best striker in league one by a mile, lets not forget that he was pushed out of bristol city by the Leroy Lita/Brooker partnership, and he did well for us his 35 or so goals have all been great ones and he will be missed, without a doubt...

But Hayter has been with O driscoll in all of his playing career (except the 2006-07 season, in which Hayter steyd at bournemouth \"for now\") SOD obviously has him in high places and knows he is a striker that looks around the pitch, his footballing intelligence is great because he only seems to pull the trigger when it looks a certain goal, his shots/goals ratio must be something worth looking at, he has an excellent work rate, although league one probably looks more like his cup of tea, he has 13 goals in 2 seasons in the campionship and has done well this season especially when being second best to the likes of the billy sharp

To be fair, Hayter hit the bar from 3 yards at Blackpool, and snatched at a last minute volley in the Sheff United game and ballooned it into the South Stand, but you have to accept that every striker misses chances. I think Hayter is fantastic for us and would be gutted if he didn't sign a new deal, but to say that he has only missed one sitter all season would be daft.

It's been clear for a while that Heffs has just been turning up to make up the numbers while his contract runs down. He knew that. I wonder how much that has affected his game since we called him back from Bristol? Strikers are entitled to miss chances, but I think Heffs would have stuck his recent chances away in normal circumstances.
