Anyone else seemingly worried......

by the amount of league 2 players we are getting linked with, working with a few Rotherham fans at the mo, and they have said that it has been the worst league they have seen in years, zero passing football from any team. Judging by how bad Chessie & in particular Bournemouth were today i tend to agree.

I wouldn't be too concerned at this stage. This time last summer we were getting linked with the likes of Reuben Reid and Jason Walker at Barrow, yet we still managed to finish in the top half of the Championship.

Also, I wouldn't be too worried about players who could potentially leave the club in the summer - Gareth Roberts being one of those players in particular. Losing him would be a blow, but in the previous couple of years we have lost Paul Green, Richie Wellens and Matt Mills and we have always recovered.

Losing SO'D would properly be the start of the \"Uh, oh, squeaky bum time\" for me.

If anyone can pull it off, its us, but you still tend to worry as it could all go pair shaped. Just because we have pulled it off in the past, doesn't mean we will every time.

I will worry until we get to 50 points   Time to get the prozac out :woohoo:

Thats right Rigo, since we have been in the championship we have been linked with league two,non league and lower scottish league players regularly and from memory the only ones we took up are dumbaya and Webster(although) he was abroad most recently. But if anything it shows we are scouring the lower leagues regular to see if we can get that occasional \"bargain\".Serious first team players have been fetched from big pedrigree homes usually. There is one thing that I find strange is that since we got into the championship we never seem to be linked with players from league one with exception to Gillett.I would have thought that would be our best hunting ground for players in our wages scale.I mean that is where we got some of our recent players that became worth while having like Wellens,o connor,Roberts,Heffs etc.

As soon as a Lg.1 player gets interest fron a championship club their agent goes into overdrive, sees pound signs flashing before their eyes and demands at least £20K a week in wages. Players are far too greedy when it comes to wages. Rovers will be sensible in taking good players who have sensible attitudes to wages, they will not take people like gillet who expect too much in their pocket when their agent says to hold out for more, do that and they are just left alone. I suspect that is why we didn't take Walker as well.

Thats a good point but with Walker it was said Barrow's evaluation was 6 figures and rovers felt he was only worth a lower 5 figure sum.And with Gillett I thought Rovers came very close with wages if not agreed(in fact I remember a staement from SOD saying he was hopeful and it was a case of crossing the 't's dotting the 'I'S etc) but Southampton went back on their word and asked for a Fee after initailly agreeing to let him go on a free(possibly a reaction to Rovers not dropping their evaluation of stock).Because the Gillett deal fell through everybody has assumed he/his agent wanted more wages. It would be nice to find out the truth. If is was not wages then we might see him again when his current contract fully ends.

If it is Barrow that are being greedy then they might well lose out too if Walkers cards are still on the table and he is out of contract. Clubs as well as players need to start getting realistic to a change in the finances of football. It would be nice to see the lad coming here on a free(or at least a tribunal sum)if he is considered good enough by the management.
