Its no surprise that Derby can afford to pay Robbo an inflated salary because 2 years after relegation they still collect £12.4m from the PL. Check to see where the money went last season;

The carrot dangling is to get even bigger from nest season too. Teams relegated from the prem (from next season) are to get £49 million spread over four seasons. There has never been a better time to get to the premiership, and to have a slice of that nice delicious cake.

If you don’t get into the prem soon, you’ll have naff all chance (ever)to get to the promise land as the gulf widens even further. Surely our board are tempted to take the risk?

I know on another thread, I was saying I’m a happy clapper and support the board no matter what; however, I still keep an open mind, and I really hope that this new improved parachute payment, sways our board to take a risk as we aren’t that far off being promotion candidates as it stands anyhow.  

It must be worth the risk (buying a few quality players) as we will be tying players (such as Sharp) down to (atleatst) 3 year contracts. It’s not as though we would have one season to get up, if we took the risk because buying Sharp, and a few other quality additions, would give us that extra humph as we are already three quarters of the way to the dangling carrot. Also, we could sell the players for profit, such as Sharp

Skysports.com understands Derby are lining up a move for in-demand Hibernian forward Derek Riordan.

Riordan could well be set to leave Easter Road this summer with a number of clubs monitoring his situation.

The talented 27-year-old has just one year left to run on his current contract and the Rams are now poised to make a bid.

Pride Park boss Nigel Clough could face competition from Championship rivals Barnsley for Riordan's services.

Also Barnsley ready to splash the cash. Looks like they're going for the shit or bust theory again !

This really does pi-ss me off, teams such as Portsmouth ending up in the crap after receiving that sort of money.
It all boils down to two things - greedy players and even greedier agents.
By the look of things nothing will change, the bigger the pot the bigger shareout for players and agents.
The gulf is going to get bigger as people have already stated, I think you can chase the premier now and risk not getting there leaving you with a pile of debt, or tick along nicely in mid-division.
With the money being thrown at clubs in the Premier league admission prices should be chopped to £20.00 maximum and let the greedy buggers take a wage cut.
One other point what happens to the parachute payment if a club aka Portsmouth gets relegated again next season?

That'll be bust then.  Look at the last 2 months of the season for Barnsley when Robins admitted he didnt have a clue how to arrest the slump they were in.  Here's a couple of tips, Robbo - 1) Never, ever, admit you dont know what to do, and 2) make the most of your chairman's cash before the jailer takes him away.

Some people on here are unbelievable. After whats happened to palace and portsmouth and with the likes of preston, cardiff and hull in all kinds of problems and you lot are talking about us taking RISKS! I was as dissappointed as anyone that we failed to get shackell and i dont think we'll get sharp. But if thats the strength of things for us then so be it. I certainly dont want us taking risks. Were the sort of club that would be thrown to the wolves if we were to get into difficulty as we haven't got the revenue or the stature in the game to deal with a big debt.
