Elliott Ward

Not sure how true this is, been told off A Barnsley fan.

Supposedly Ward has been spotted at Oakwell being shown round the ground by Robins.

Could he be going to Tarn?
Hmmmm

That would really take the Biscuit, but i suppose if the silly buggers are offering silly wages, then you'd be er..... silly not to take them up on it!

Wouldn't surprise me, both him and Shackell have the same agent and no doubt he'll be trying to get the best possible deal for his client.

Wouldnt suprise me one little bit to be honest.

Barnsley seem able to fund these transfers whilst we are scrabbling around for loose change down the back of the proverbail sofa.

Its gonna be a long summer.

I don't think they are paying wages above and beyond their means, according to the Barnsley lads l work with Moore was on 8.5k, Kozluk commented on Radio Sheff that when he signed he was the highest paid player, Davey had promised him that and they also signed De Silva on big wages from Everton, all three have been released this summer so that's made massive cuts into their wage bill. In the Star today Robins states he's not in the hunt for Sharp or Beattie because they are out of his price range.

We may not have as big a budget as some but SO'D hasn't done bad in his past signings so have a bit of patience, i'm sure you wont be disappointed.

This may be true but both Ward and Shackell are left sided of the central two so why would Barnsley sign both?

Shack has been offered ludicrous wages by Barnsley which is why we didn't get him and we are not scrabbling around for loose change but neither are we putting the Club at risk. We were paying £6.5 k per week for Shack on loan last season, Barnsley are paying way above that. There is no need to panic or think the Board have no ambition just be patient the Transfer Window isn't open yet most things you read or hear are pure speculation.

Ludicrous wages according to who? or just paying the going rate for a decent Championship defender. Anything will seem ludicrous above 5k to Rovers fans but Barnsley won't be braking their salary cap on Shackell, l remember on a Radio Sheff interview Davey saying Cryne caps the highest wage at 8.5k and that is low for the Championship. Good job S'OD can spot a bargain with the limits JR has given him.

least we're still interested

Looks as if we may be out of the market for Ward finacially. I think signing Kennedy looks more possible as I think we will guarentee him more games. but i don't know... hopefully we can get both :)

In SOD we trust.

Does our Sean sound a bit fed up in that piece? It can't be easy trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Despite John Ryan claiming he has the biggest budget ever it seems that we are still at the bottom of the ladder financially.

He may have given him the biggest transfer budget but its the wage budget that needs to rise if we want to really compete to attract this sort of player.

Truth is alot of fans of Doncaster have fishy memories

I remember the Conference very well and i remember when £75k for McIndoe was 'fairly expensive'.

We have a smaller budget true but Scunny i'm willing to bet have a similar sized one and look at these strikers unearthed every season.

We have fantastic scouts in Scotland, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe.....all over in other words, we should just be patient and remember our roots. We might not be a 'leeds United' but that just makes it all the sweeter when we beat these small teams

Now Ward is a fantastic attacking defender and is reliable on the games i have seen involving him, so yes it'd be nice to sign him but i'm not losing sleep over it, because we'll find someone similar for cheaper inevitably and will be better financially in the long run

It worried me when I heard Ward has the same agent as Shackell. Presumably the agent then knows the range of fringe benefits he can negotiate for his 'client' on top of higher wages.

Surely therefore it's also in the agents interest to marry the two up in the knowledge his cut will be greater.

If Barnsley are sniffing then I fear the second choice centre half will also be crossed off the list.

I bet Scunnies wage bill is half ours.

Id love to know how much we offered Martis a week,he seemed quite happy to sign.
Players who sign purely for money im glad we miss out on,I want players who want to play for the club not for the pound signs!

I have it on very good authority Elliot Ward has bigger admirers than us who are willing to offer him up to 13k a week,
We have spoken to him and he and his agent dont like the wages we are preparing to offer.(7.5k)

My source has heard off 4 clubs who are looking at him and they are.

Ipswich.
Sheff Utd.
Leicester.
Forest.

No mention of Barnsley though.

WE are only prepared to offer 7.5k in wages and that would make him our highest earner however my source tells me he is most likely going to decide on his future in the next month.

And for the record my source is a member of drfc and his info has been correct for the past 2 years.

What concerns me is he's not £13k per week material and, if those clubs are willing to pay that much for someone who's played on loan here and there, then no wonder football finances are in the shit.

Plus, I hope the agent tells his other client (Shackell) what he could have had !

Bonkers

Football is going down the drain mate and it has now become a money game,it frustrates me so much.
As much as i love the sport i still think all the football leauge players are overpaid, that money should go towards those who make life real like surgeons and soilders etc,not footballers who kick a football round for 90 miniutes a week or sometimes 180 and falling over every 10 miniutes.

Its annoying but that is all true.

£13k a week and he will be third choice for at least 3 of those clubs, obviously not learnt from his time at Coventry. Oh well when he gets stuck in the reserves he might be back here on loan again.

Not a dilema I am every likely to have but, if you had a choice of £13k per week and maybe get a game OR £7.5k per week and be a guaranteed starter.....which would you choose?
