biggest load of trash ever spoken on this here forum. Fantastic scouts? why do we never sign any of these players from these regions?

I can only think of one player from abroad and that's Webster, what a signing he turned out to be

intresting, we have 4 centre backs on our books as well as jimmy who can also play there, so if we are looking to sign new centre backs that must say something for the quality we already have.

now that we have lost out on shack and ward who do you think the next target will be???

I have it on very good authority Elliot Ward has bigger admirers than us who are willing to offer him up to 13k a week,
We have spoken to him and he and his agent dont like the wages we are preparing to offer.(7.5k)

My source has heard off 4 clubs who are looking at him and they are.

Ipswich.
Sheff Utd.
Leicester.
Forest.

No mention of Barnsley though.

WE are only prepared to offer 7.5k in wages and that would make him our highest earner however my source tells me he is most likely going to decide on his future in the next month.

And for the record my source is a member of drfc and his info has been correct for the past 2 years.

You missed Norwich City of that list  :P

Do we reckon Norwich paid over the odds like Shackell as well or maybe just the fact that Rovers aren't able to pay the going rate for a decent Championship defender, hence the reason why they come on loan?

We can't pay the going rate. We need to accept it.

Just watched his interview on bbc sport and i'm really pleased he didn't join us, the bloke is thick as f**k. You couldn't trust him to organise the back four, he's got shit for brains.

Elliott Ward not good enough for Coventry + Preston two teams that finished below us last season, and from what i saw of him,not good enough for us and certainly not a patch on Jason Shekels. :)

It doesnt matter that hes not as good as, err, 'Jason Shekels' because we didn't sign him either. He did well for us in his few games here, we all would've been happy had he signed.

And why have people suddenly decided Webster's shit? His injuries meant he barely got a chance to play, and in his once chance from the start he got injured.

disappointed not to sign either Shackell or ward as both would hav been very good signings, however Shackell missed 2 games pulling out in the warm ups and then starting after coming back from injury and going off after a couple of minutes so who knows how many games if would play for us, so no doubt sum would moan if he missed games saying it would have been a waste of money. As for Ward lets get real we cant compete with any team on them paying wages to players when they will be getting 2 times the gates we will be getting.SOD has worked wonders getting players in and sure he will again.

Ward will only be remembered for that goal in a few months time.

As for Webster. Unfair to judge on limited appearances, however he was pretty darn good against Notts County. I recall he was a little suspect against Spurs (then again aren't most defenders).

He needs a good run in the side to show us what he can do. If he's good enough and better than what we have, then he will get that run.

I thought it was Locky that looked more suspect against Spurs wasn't it? (Bearing in mind how Spurs were playing at that time!) Webster is going to be a hidden gem eventually, not unlike a certain Mr.Brooker...... :)

Maybe we are being abit discreat about our real targets?  reason i say this  is that the centre back department is probably our strongest position at the club.
Martis
Webster
Hird
Lockward
O'Conner if needed as he was one of the best players last season in this position.

I agree, more than enough there I reckon, a left back is more of a problem unless the Rochdale connection is sewn up.

There's no doubt Webster has potential. To say he was in the wilderness playing abroad and then coming in to play at Championship level is a tough ask for any young player.

He did well in a couple of games and stood firm at Sheff Utd and played on whilst injured.

Reports says he's been doing a lot of upper body work so hopefully he'll emerge a much stronger player. He may not be as dominant in the air as Shackell however, not many are ! I think he may be one that suprises us next season.

Good point timdrfc and one that had crossed my mind 4 weeks ago.

Re:Elliot Ward: PNE fans not too impressed  3 Weeks, 6 Days ago

We also have to consider the more than possible scenario that we could start next season with Martis and one of Locky/Hird/Webster/JOC

Technically we do have the numbers already and it's now a judgement from Sean if he feels we have the quality, although IMO I still feel one CH will come in, via whatever means

Well i'm thrilled to bits we haven't signed Ward. Nice goal but he looked very dodgy at the back whenever I saw him.

Totally agree with the above comment, much prefered watching Webster and  think he will turn out to be better than Mills.

Martis - shakey but should come good
Webster - looked slow, unsure.
hird - hesitant and league 1 standard at the moment.
Lockwood - League 1. gets burnt for pace.
O'Connor - makeshift centre half and still the best!

Martis-agree
Webster-bit slow, i thought he looked a bit shakey in the air, especially for a big lad
hird-quality defender, got to get a new contract IMO
lockwood-Ok(ish stand in)
O'Connor-makeshift yes, think we miss him at RB though

I wonder how much of the hype around Ward is because of his wonder goal against the Wendies?
When I saw Webster in action at Sheff Utd, I thought he looked the part and believe he is definitely one to keep hold of and could be a big player in a few years.
We still need another centre back however. I'm not the biggest fan of Martis either.

The bloke was clearly overrated. That goal at Hillborough? Pah!

As we all know, Ward had a sudden Stock-like back spasm that happened by complete coincidence just as Sharp crossed the ball in. Ward was arching his back in an effort to relieve the pain and just as the ball reached the peak of its trajectory, Ward had a violent tweak in his hamstring that amazingly made his foot connect with ball just as it passed over his head. A billion to one fluke.

As for Jism Slackbell, or whatever his name was. Pah! Overrated.

As we all know, Slackbell had a foot injury that made him jump in pain at random moments etc etc etc

Agreed. And that Wellens bellends fella. Ran around like an idiot without a clue. Sheer spawn that he got in the way of the opposition, and they lost the ball, conveniently falling at his feet. Pure pox that he was always near one our players to give them an option/easy ball. That kind of luck was sure to run out one day, and I think Sean cashed in just at the right time.
