Here's the link - http://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk/free-press-sport/Rovers-transfer-boost-as-Oster.6321753.jp

Its good, as it wasnt written until tomorrow!  Also, its all speculation and nothing concrete (although I was told Oster is signing from a number of sources last week)

SOD said he'd try to sort out the contract renewals before the week is out, then he can concentrate of bringing new faces in.

I hope it's confirmed by end of tomorrow to give us the lift that we all need to keep the faith.

Plenty of time for SOD to unearth the next rough diamond(s) !

I won't count my chickens yet but it sounds like good news.

By my reckoning we still have the following considering deals:

Robbie Clark
Mustapha Dumbuya
Waide Fairhurst
James Hayter
Sam Hird (?)
John Oster
Mark Wilson

If we get these players signed up, I think we'll need a left back, centre back and two strikers. I wonder if the \"season long loan\" option will be tried for one of the strikers?

If the news on Oster signing does turn out to be true then it is by far the biggest boost so far.

All things considered, Oster is possibly the most talented footballer I've seen play for us, and somebody our team can be built around.

His signing would send out the right message, and then hopefully others will follow.

Can't say for the others, but Clark has been given a six month deal with SO'D saying he isn't quite ready for the Championship just yet, but is too good to just let go. It is a non contract agreement with Clark, so I don't think there is any paperwork.

So a quick line up check

Keepers: Sullivan, Woods

Defenders: O'Connor, Chambers, Martis, Lockwood, Webster, (Hird, Dumbaya)

Midfield: Stock, Woods, Coppinger, Shiels (Oster, Wilson, Clark)

Forwards: Brooker, (Hayter, Fairhurst)

Mmmmm. A couple of holes to fill here and some backups needed. We still have a decent squad.

We need Oster, Hird, Hayter, Fairhurst and Wilson to sign up and at least we can put a balanced team out in the first match come what may.

If we acquire any new faces in the meantime then I'll be well happy.

No probs with that. I would say Copps and more proven in a DRFC shirt, but it's all about opinions. I would suggest we have 4 excellent cultured footballers in our current team in Copps, Woods, Oster and Stock (with Hayter not too far behind and Deano behind him). The last player who looked like a cultured footballer (IMO), who I have seen was Snods. By tomorrow, we may have 4.

A midfield of Copps Oster Stock Woods is mouthwatering enough for me in terms of talented cultured footballers.......however it needs balancing with a Wellens, Wilson, Gillett type

Hird is a strange one. I could have sworn he signed a two year deal when we got promoted, which would mean he's due for a renewal now, but there doesn't seem to have been a mention of him when it comes to the contract announcements?

It is, maybe we had the option of an extra year or something like that?  Very strange.

Also to note, Fairhurst is in contract isn't he but has been offered an extension anyway?

EDIT:  As per Official Site.

The youngster signed a new two-year deal with Doncaster Rovers in July 2009.

Can't argue with that either.

I've been a massive fan of Coppinger ever since we signed him and he has almost unrivalled natural ability. When I said all things considered (with reference to Oster) I was particularly referring to the amount of his career that has been spent playing at the highest level, and the fact that his performances for us suggested he would still fit in there.

I'm too young to have seen Snodin in his prime (only his return as player/manager). Wellens and Stock are the best midfielders I'd ever seen play for us and the form of Oster meant we coped so well without them for much of last season.

I certainly agree that we are (assuming Oster and Stock stay) putting together a midfield that the team can be built around, although I agree with SO'D that we need to add another to the squad.

Looking at the quality of our midfield options shows how close we can be to putting together a team that can challenge, with a few key additions at either end of the pitch. I just hope we get them.

Shame because he was a Stock, Oster and Wellens all rolled in to one. He had all the silky skills, the range of passing and, he could be a nasty bas**rd when he needed to be

Good news if true, and given the option of signing Shackell/Ward or Oster, it's oster every time for me.
