« on May 31, 2010, 06:59:19 pm by sha66y »
dont want to sound like i am taking a backward step regarding my last post about being English, flying flags, and living in council estates.

i am English and spent 18 years in the Military.

i was born and bred in Carcroft, (pit house)

i have a nice St Georges flag in my pencil divider at work.

my girlfriend as just pointed out that the flags actually have \"D.R.F.C\" on them as well...................

good time to ge \"spec-savers\" ...... boom boom !!

been trying to get that spec-saver into a topic for ages.....  B)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the cross of St.George flag, or being proud to be English and being passionate about the football/cricket/tiddly winks team. What is wrong is using the same thing to brew hatred about others that choose to support the team of their birth, be it Bangla Deshi/Polish/Lithuanian/ Pakistani etc. Live and let live, and allow people to make choices about their roots, or their birthplace. Very often it means that they end up supporting two teams. In the older days Norman Tebbit used the cricket test, it is not a fair one.

The question is why companies that make and individuals them feel it is necessary to write ENGLAND through the middle of it - I know that the flag of Saint George is the flag of England. Why is it necessary then to have England through the middle - it should be blatantly obvious who I am supporting!

Now a flag of St George with a white rose in it would be ideal..... a perfect match  ;)

Having had a part of my family that spent half her life here and half in Canada I can see it from both sides. She has an interest in England, but would love it if the Canadians won. It is NOT simple, and people make their own choices, ask any Donny resident who supports any another team than Rovers, there is always a reason behind it.

So if me and the missus emigrate to Australia and have a child that child should support the Aussies during The Ashes?

In Doncaster we should be especially proud of the English flag and our patron saint of St George. The St George Parish Church, now renamed as the St George Minster, was the first church in England to be named after our patron saint, thereby setting a trend which has followed since 1061.

Furthermore the architect who designed the current Minster in 1854 also designed St Pancras Station, what better examples of architecture are there?

As I said, Tebbit's who do you support in a test match will never work, that is why those yorkshire lads with asian families support India, Pakistan or Bangla Desh. The same applies to Scots Welsh and Irish supporters too. Nationality and roots often conflict.  ;)

The ones who should be ashamed are the bas**rds who steal the flag for their own ends.  Have a drive up Balby Road, just near the junction with Carr Hill, and look at the st George's cross with BNP scrawled on it  hanging outside the filthiest window.

Point of Order. He actually designed the hotel at the front of the station, to hide the main railway station roof, which the Victorian elite thought was an industrial monstrosity. The roof is a work of pure engineering, untouched by the hand of an architect.

John Ruskin, the arch-conservative (see what I did there?) hated it and campaigned passionately against allowing it to be seen from the Capital. That's why the hotel was built.

But it's the roof that evokes wonder today as having heralded the coming modern era. It's the roof, the wonder of engineering genius, the longest span building in the world when it was built that is the Gateway to Britain from the Channel Tunnel. Whilst the hotel is a mildly interesting piece of neo-Gothic Victoriana, beloved by architects and pretty much ignored by everyone else.

I moved to Sheffield 6 13 years ago. Should I bring my kids up to support Sheffield Wednesday?

After you answer, \"No, of course not,\" explain to me in well argued terms why nationality should be different.
