Shocking what has happened there today. Puts alot of things into perspective.

Its a shame the bas**rd turned the gun on himself and he'll never actually pay for what he did.

I felt sure they'd be some quick of the mark sick jokes on this thread.

I'll have another look tomorrow.

Going to get slated for this (not the first time), but I've got thick skin -so:

Derrick Bird has been called up to the England squad by Fabio Capello. He has had more shots in one day that Emile Heskey has all season

I watched the coverage on the ITV news..those poor people, just going about minding their buisiness and then gone.  For some reason the young farmer upset me the most, perhaps because he was in such a peaceful spot, just working away. terrible.

As usual Mark Austin went into cliche overload.. My favorite quote being locals say Bird's actions were totally out of character.....I mean , isn't massacre suicide a once in a lifetime gig?

And his interview with the fifteen year old, just smacked me as being so pardon me sir did you see what happened?(as in the Streak)..

Yeah. We should bring back the death penalty so we can gang people like this.

They used to impale heads on Mickle Bar in York to show people that folks were actually dead I think, maybe the commisioners coming into Donny will reinstate the tradition there.

Sad situation in Cumbria though, just like the Bradford stuff I just can't understand the mindset these folks are in, thank goodness!

It's probably controversial on here but I can't help thinking that the actions of that fellow are a spotlight upon multiple failures of society. I won't bore you with the detail, but for anyone, anyone at all, to get into a mindset which results in behaviour like that then it seems to me it reflects very badly on the society that produced, allowed and failed to spot it.

Cheers

I had to do a training course last year in Denver and got talking to some of the others in the class and they starting discussing the Columbine shooting as it is very close to Denver, and they said there were indications that the kids who were responsible showed warning signs of what they were planning to do.  Some of the things they mentioned didn't get picked up in the press. But if only one person had picked up on it or told someone, the outcome could have been very different.  It's terrible to say, but the US seems to have so many of them, I am relieved when it doesn't happen here.  I guess mental illness transcends all nationalities.  We try to limit hand guns and semi automatic weapons, but rifles used for hunting are just as lethal. Forget constitutional rights, all guns should be banned or better yet, just not produced.

Of course it's societies problem as a whole, but what is the answer?  As nurses, we must learn the warning signs to look for when talking to patients, and if there is even an inkling of suicidal or homicidal ideations, we HAVE to report it or we may be legally brought up on charges. In my job I have to monitor other nurses cases, and many times I see something they have let slide or didn't follow up on, and I give them holy hell because behavioral health issues are always the priority.

Testimony from a taxi driver shot by Mr Bird stated that \"When I was shot in the back, my army training kicked in and I dived to the floor and crawled away from the shots.\"

It's a good thing he was in the army. If I was being shot at I probably would have stood there and f**king danced for him.

Surely anyone who was shot in the back would fall to the floor - because of the fact you had just been shot in the f**king back!
