\"Home Grown\"
« on June 08, 2010, 06:39:13 pm by Dutch Uncle »
Can anyone explain the new regulations in detail?

Homegrown seems to be having been registered for domestic competition for 3 years prior to 18th birthday, but does domestic include Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all of which who have their own competition, and maybe even RoI?

Also with the limit of 25 players older than 21 - does this include players loaned in and/or loaned out?

Don't think Rovers will have problems, but with loanees I think we may have been close to or over the 25 last season

seems a bit silly to me, if you think about it there making alot of players unable to get teams when they get older. so players got to retire earlier :/ also this homegrown thing means that most bigger teams will be snapping them up earlier meaning smaller clubs like ours are gonna be lacking in the youth department.

From next season, clubs will have to name 10 \"home-grown\" players in a squad restricted to 25 players aged over 21.
To qualify, players must be registered in domestic football for three seasons before turning 21.

So if I'm getting this right

1. You can't have more than 25 over the age of 21.

2. And at least 10 of those that are over 21 will have to have been registered with an English ? club since the age of 18.

So, would that rule out Dean Shiels and Byron Webster as being home grown ?

Depends how many seasons Shiels was registered as a pro with Arsenal - he moved to Hibs aged 19 but the article there says \"3 seasons before turning 21\".

Webster should be fine. Whilst I'm only going off Wikipedia he appears to have been registered at York for 3 years before he was 21.

I wonder what they mean by \"registered in domestic football for three seasons before turning 21\". Does this mean a player has to be registered at a league club? If so, the likes of Chris Waddle, Stuart Pearce, Steve Bull and Ian Wright wouldn't have counted.
