Doncaster Rovers Update

Sean O'Driscoll will complete the signing of Tom Kennedy this week, finally, after last minute scares from Sheffield United and Leicester City.

Also this week on returning from holiday, O'Driscoll will attempt to wrap up a deal for Slovakia centre forward Pavol Jurco. Doncaster were said to be very interested in him last season as he can play upfront, behind the striker or either wing. Very fast and Tricky.

Negotiations with Billy Sharp are ongoing and no nearer to a conclusion. Developments could happen when Billy returns from his honeymoon at the end of the week.

Remember, Brett Pitman is already agreed at 350k and will be announced next week.

Rovers are still in the market for another Goalkeeper, central defender and central midfielder as well as 2 strikers if Sharp is signed or not.

Exciting times ahead.

From the rumours website? If so less than plausible, but a nice wish list.

Would be nice, but I can spot at least one flaw in there. Are we not negotiating with Sheffield United rather than with Billy Sharp at this stage?

Who the hell knows Jonathan, apart from JR and SOD? News is not exactly spilling out of Rovers is it? I am not moaning though, it has done us no harm in the past to be so secretive until the final deal is done in the past, we live in Hope (and apparently if you do you get buried in Castleton);)

Do you Bakewell BR ? Remember silence is golden and I prefer the way Rovers keep their cards very close to their chest these days.

It just sounds like it's all of the more realistic rumours from here put into one.

Now there is experience talking, nice surprises can sometimes happen when Rovers keep quiet, and then folks have to eat humble pie, or even the dog's dangly bits! :)

Fraid I disagree. There's no such thing as secret negotiations these days. If we're interested in a player, agents will ensure that all other potential suitors will know about it.

I've no idea why we are so obsessed with Politburo-style secrecy in everything we do, but I wonder whether someone at the club has ever considered this dismissive attitude towards keeping the fans informed when they consider the season ticket sales.

Truth is we wont get Sharp or Kennedy. No chance. Leeds and Burnley are bigger clubs and can afford to outspend us in all areas. Truth be told im glad we havent heard any news as it means we're being somewhat secretive, i doubt we'll sign any major additions, if we do i'll have my humble pie waiting in the fridge

You are entirely right.

We keep seeing the same \"smoke and mirrors\" and \"slowly\" and \"quietly\" lines rolled out but it's a bit pointless. It is in the interest of the agent (if not always the player from a footballing perspective) to drum up as much interest as possible when there is a chance of moving clubs.

Take the Kennedy situation. Sky jumped the gun by annoucing he was joining us, the fans are left in limbo wondering what's happened (the non-appearance on DROS could mean anything because they are so slow with any information). Why didn't the official site release a statement saying that the Sky story was wrong? Why doesn't the official site release a statement saying what's happening now? They are not interested in informing the fans about anything, and they don't care about the potential impact of the black hole of information.

We pick up snippets from the Free Press, the Yorkshire Sport and occasionally the Doncaster Star. They get interviews with figures at the club and manage to release little bits of news - why can't our own official website?

Concerns right now are understandable but should not be out of control. The reality is that we started the summer with primary targets, none of which have been secured yet and several of which have been lost. It is ridiculous for anyone to suggest that the majority of supporters should not care about that.

It can't be that big a deal, Jon, as (surely) neither the manager or Chairman would have gone on their holidays this last week? ;)

The only conclusion I can come to is that we must have alternatives lined up and ready to go when SOD and JR get back. It is inconceivable to think we're going to be scratting around in the bargain basement sale of sales.

I'm afraid you're going to be waiting a long time. It simply does not matter to me who we get in anymore, as my expectation level has been adjusted accordingly and I simply do not believe anything that anyone says now. Like a lot of people on here - I'll believe it when I see it.

Its no good ranting about anything - I'm just left with apathy.

Thirded. I think I may have had my sights set like that, about the start of the CCC campaign. I tell thee all, it hurts a lot less and everything is a bonus.

Just try it folks.

I fail to see the reason for the despondency. Last close season was frustrating, yet we ended up with Odter, Sharp, Shackell and JET playing for us. I'd settle for their equivalents this year.

Still doesn't change the fact that the club has a responsibility to keep fans informed mind, but I AM sure that we will pick up suitable targets over the next 3 months.

You're right BST and while ever SOD's in charge, I can just about manage to keep some sort of faith. If we were to lose the SOD/ROK partnership though............

I can understand those that gripe and moan because I've been one of the very best on here, particularly with regards to strikers (but I think we don't need to discuss who was right all along, anymore ;) ). Not anymore though, as I have much more important things to concern me right now. I'll say one thing in the defence of anyone who does have a 'moan' now and again - at least they're bothered, which is something that all the others, who hate to read about perceived 'moaning', would do well to remember.

I think we'll have a squad that will 'challenge' next season but whether it will challenge for the play-off's is another completely seperate thing.

I wonder what the Blackpool fans thought when Big Cook Ben left them...
