Will we sign anyone?
« on June 10, 2010, 12:10:42 pm by MrFrost »
Might sound stupid, but will we?
And if we do, will they be panic buy's or \"stars of the future\" such as last season with Dumbuya and Webster.

Apart from Oster, who may or may not be here next term, we didn't make a significant permanent signing last summer.

Could the same happen again?

Like what? \"Mouthwatering Signings\" like Byron Webster again? This is what annoys me. They release statements getting people's hopes up for the club with news of signings about to happen and they never seem to come about.

We can't even get our own players signed up never mind other players, SOD said he was not even looking at other players until we had Hayter & Oster signed up! The longer times goes on the smaller the chance of those two signing up.

Has the bubble burst on our club do we think? Has JR lost his knack of talking players into coming here?

As soon as our name is mentioned with a player, a bigger club jumps in because they know how good SOD is at spotting little diamonds.

I am getting really worried that we are going to have to buy a butch of nobodys at this rate that will take to long to settle into the club and won't be any better then we already have.

I agree. I'd take anything that Gartom posts on here about signings with a massive pinch of salt and then dismiss it as propaganda. That might sound harsh but what else can we think or believe after the bile spewed out on here last summer about \"mouthwatering signings\"? At this rate just having Sean as our manager will be a success come the start of the season, because he can't be happy with our inability to compete for players we need to push us to the next level. It speaks volumes when Kennedy has gone to Leciester as reserve back up when he would be probably be the first name on the sheet here. Are we really that unattractive or are we offering these players comparative peanuts? I dare say its the latter...

Agreed, and as such, I hope Fans arent on SOD's back when the injuries hit next season and we can't compete because those players that remain simply can't step up to the mark.

jeez a couple of setbacks and its suicide time!

if we were waiting for hayter and oster how come we have been linked with shackell sharp and kennedy

and wasnt kennedy a nobody until someone (his agent) leaked our interest?

what it boils down to is that we have a valuation for each player we want to sign if someone comes to the player and offers more than we are willing to then they go to them

leicester made a loss of 6 million last year and are still buying players  lunacy!

they should be made by the FL and the FA to be fiscally responsible but unless or until there is sufficient oversight they will keep on doing a palace or a portsmouth

It isn't just a couple of setbacks though is it.

1. ROBERTS GONE
2. FAILED TO SIGN SHACKELL
3. FAILED TO SIGN WARD
4. FAILED TO SIGN KENNADY
5. OSTER HASN'T RENEWED
6. HAYTER HASN'T RENEWED
7. SEASON TICKET SALES ARE EXTREMELY POOR

AND NOW MY CAPS LOCK IS STUCK AND I CANT GET IT OFF.

YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THAT AND SAY IT IS WORRYING.

There's me thinking there is still over two months of the close season left and that there are more than half a dozen attainable footballers in the world.

Right things are so bad I am going to fling myself off the top floor!!!

I can't help wondering if the whole Kennedy thing has been anticipated by the club and we moved on long back.

Surely the pull of a starting place for us in the championship would have been enough to convince him to sign. Also the amount of time it went on for suggested that something wasn't right.

It sounds to me like he could have been holding out for a \"bigger\" club or higher wages. Leicester came in with x amount more than us and he snapped their hands off.

Lets wait and see what happens in the next couple of weeks once SOD and JR are back from their holidays.

You have to wonder who is heading up the chasing of players etc while SOD and JR are on holiday, and if this has any bearing on players we have missed out on.

Erm probably the director of football.

I didn't realise it was so desperate and that the season starts next week.

For what it's worth would this team lining up be so bad?

Sullivan

O Connor
Chambers
Lockwood
Martis

Stock
Woods
Wilson

Coppinger
Fairhurst
Shiels

OK, it's not perfect, but to say we're over 2 months away from kick off, it's not really a bad start is it?

Carry on, are we having subs?

It all depends what your hopes are I guess.

Would that team have got us promoted from League One? Who knows, but we had a better team than that when we were in League One.

There's still plenty of time left this summer but I absolutely understand the concerns and frustrations people are showing. We can only judge on the evidence we have, and the way the close season has started does not bode well, you can't argue with that.

Of course, I agree completely, there's lots to be done, but it's not the end of the world and that team would keep us up.  It wouldn't get us much further, but it's a decent starting basis.  In midfield it looks strong but still weak up front.  I'd say that of them, Sulli, O Connor, Martis, Stock, Woods, Coppinger and Shiels would all be on SOD's first team.  Clearly we need another striker, centre half and left back, midfield is still debateable I personally think Wilson can do it.

Squad depth is another issue, but that's not important right away, I suspect that will be supplemented by trialists/loan players anyways.

As for Brooker, well he'd be in, but it's a big assumption to say he'll be fit.

Before JR and SOD went off on their holidays, they will have set the ball in motion with regard to pursuing the players that they are interested in (any any plan B's). There is absolutely no doubt that whilst they are both away they will be in regular contact with their staff getting updates and instructing on the next course of action for any potential deals - Our club is still in safe hands - just let them get on with it quietly while they enjoy there holidays.

I doubt the majority would back him. If he tells us a spin then its told in the best interest of the club. ffs, do people want him to tell truth and we sell about 2k season tickets.

The way people go on, you'd think JR was a crook trying to screw the club.

Get a grip.
