...that we get more than: £1.2 from season ticket sales?

What's Billy Sharps salary, 700k...hmmm.

Can we even afford the shitest league 2 player when our income is so low?

Matter of time until league one, agreed?

We could still do the impossible (as long as we have the right manager) which becomes harder to maintain the more successful we are at this level.

And he totally ignores the many sosurces of income to the club too. ST money is probably not as large as the TV funding. The Commercial people bring in over a million a year as JR said not too long back. Even away ticket sales brings in 50p a ticket. That might only amount to 5 or 6 grand a year, but it demonstrates that even little things do bring in lucre. There's enough of those to make a significant contribution.

The question is incomplete. It's not 'Can ST sales fund our players? as stated. It should be 'Do the Rovers have enough income to fund our players?

I totally ignored the rent for the stadium too. What is your case then Boby? Are you trying to say the club runs at a profit, or just attacking owt carling says?

You got a guilty conscience or summat Carling? :) I wasn't attacking anybody. I was suggesting that playuers wages don'tcome solely from ST money. There must be vast acres of significant spend areas we never think about (insurance, medical, poll tax, VAT, NI - they'll all be big numbers), but equally it's simply a daft question to ask if ST sales can fund the players. ST sales can't. But total income might. Sales on the day, Cup runs, away ticket sales, donations, programme sales, charges for letting out the food outlets, sponsorship, dinners, hospitality, even 'sponsor a kit' all add to club funds. That's why the question was wrong.

Cheers

Who's the Boby fella?

Let's say 300 for a ST for the sake of argument, x 8k STHs = 2.4 million.

+

Pay one the day/away support - say 4k x 20 quid x 23 league games = 1.84m.  Add on sales for FA and League Cup games.
TV money
Merchandise

I think Rovers are not that badly off.

Now if they could market their way out of a paper bag.... That would add even more into the coffers.

Of course, my figures could all be b*llocks. :)  They probably are.

You are miles out pal. The st sales will be just over 6k again and the average price is way below your estimate. Kids and concessions bring the average price down.

Sheff utd only made over £2 million last season in st sales.

Do the board not budget on st sales then? Are you calling the board liars?

Nope. Are you?

BobG

PS Don't display your ignorance. Budgets are set, in any walk of life, upon reasonable estimates of total income v fixed expenditure and then discretionary expenditure. What they are not is based on one single income stream which ignores many others. The only instance where that statement is not true is where an income stream is ring fenced, either by bequest or by statute, for a particular class of expenditure.

This thread, whilst an interesting diversion, is flawed.

We all know that the club has to rely on JR and the other directors' generosity to fund the shortfall, and that will continue.  The absolute level of STHs doesnt really influence spend - when have we ever really spent a lot on signing on fees? - other than give JR an indication of trend, and even that has to be taken in the context of conditions of the economy.  None of this is an exact science, and trying to make a correlation between ST sales and can we afford Billy Sharp is a flawed equation.  Too many variables are not being considered.

The Rovers obviously rely on the board to fund us at this level just like every other club rely on theirs to fund them (or let debt mount up as a fair few have) the only difference I see between our board and others is that they try to keep it manageable, something which Mr.Macabe over at the Blades is now trying to do.
