Have the FA got something against us?
« on June 17, 2010, 09:18:46 am by aidanstu »
Am i being paranoid or have the FA got something against rovers?

This is the thrid year running that our first game, last game and boxing day fixture have all been away? These are traditionally dates when the club at home get big gates and potentially valuable income, therefore how can it be that this has been allowed to occur three years running, JR needs to be on the phone doing some ear bashing!!  :S

i e mailed the FL about this at the ned of the season   but they tried to put the blame on the rovers  \"we liaise with the clubs and take their requests into consideration\"  blah blah blah

this is ALL wrong

Dave,

Many thanks for your email regarding the scheduling of fixtures. The methodology of compiling fixtures is very complicated and is worked on for many months by The Football League’s competitions department and our fixture scheduling partners. During this time all considerations and requests from all clubs are considered by The Football League, to get to a position where most are satisfied with the final list.

Along with certain basic competition rules on home and away frequencies, often there are several circumstances which dictate when fixtures will fall and many are specific to individual clubs (such as when near neighbours are home/away or whether there is a local carnival or other activity taking place on a certain date).

Doncaster Rovers will consult the Football League’s competitions department to attempt to mould a fixtures list in their favour but it is extremely difficult to meet all clubs’ requests. The League will be fair in working with all member clubs but can only look at their specific requests, not simply adhere to all requests to have Boxing Day at home for example. For example I can tell you that Doncaster Rovers have made specific requests in the past to reduce the chances that games will clash will race meetings at Doncaster Race course.

Ultimately many months of planning go in to ensuring that all 72 Football League clubs requests are considered when finalising the fixture lists but it is impossible to please all fans of all clubs such is the nature of the requests and parameters involved.

I hope that gives you a little more information on the way fixture lists are compiled.

Thanks again for your email.

Regards,

Andrew Pomfret

Subject: fixtures

hello

you have been kind enough to answer my questions in the past and i wonder if you can help me with this query

as a Doncaster Rovers fan i delighted that we are still in the championship but as we approach our 3rd season i wonder if this year the fixtures will be kinder

in the last 2 seasons we have had the first game the last game and boxing day fixtures all away from home

can we hope to have more luck this season with at least 2 out of the 3 at home preferably boxing day and 1 other?

thank you

Dave Emson

We`ve actually been away on the last league game of the season 4 years in a row, our last opening day home fixture was against Millwall when they had a pathetic attempt to invade the west stand

I would be interested to know Rovers views on this, I`ll not hold my breath though!

Questionnaires are sent to each club before any information is entered into the fixture computer. For all we know, Rovers may have requested to be away on those days.

The fixture list that the computer produces, however, is totally random. It's sheer coincidence that this has now happened three times in a row!

That can't be right Rigo, or we might have 23 home games in a row!
It must be programmed when we are at home or away. The teams might be randomly chosen, but I doubt that as well.

Was you at that game?Millwall didn't at any time try to enter the West stand, they ran past a few stewards and some empty seats and stopped!

can we not ask the FSF to get involved in this?

seems to be the fans who suffer most with the vagaries of the fixture list and they may be able to exert some sway over the FL

I was at that game, did you read my post properly? I did say pathetic attempt, I know what happened and as you say they stopped when they realised no one was running away from them, hence the use of the word attempt in my post  ;)  :P

On a positive note, our first seven home games look like being 12k+ and a couple of sell outs. Home games wise, it's a good start to the season.

For some reason the fixtures \"seem pants\" this year :(

Away on the opening day, boxing day and last game of the season yet again.

A game against Scunny on New Years day Think the atmos may be a tad subdued that day.

Personally bit disappointed re the Cov games as they are both on school nights thus I may not be able to go there and my mates wont be able to come up:(

Plus the arses at work will probably make me work away from home loads thus missing night matches.

I would really like to renew but will probably missed 6 plus games

I believe - although this is not a fact! - it has got something to do with us needing to be away on the weekend of the St Leger.

In order for us to do this (for some reason) - and due to the complicated process of arranging the fixtures with other teams (there was a very interesting article on the subject of League fixtures published last season)- we need to start and finish the league away.

I don't think it's a personal vendetta and, on a positive note, it might have the bonus of boosting the gate for the Carling Cup tie against Accrington?
