They have every right to boo after paying all that money and travelling all that way to watch that gutless performance!

Rooney earns in a day the amount that most fans will have scrimped and saved for months, if not years, to follow England in SA.

Perhaps he is losing his “working class roots”? Or do these apply in the case of Scousers?

Following England is like playng the lottery, a totally thankless task wherein money is spent doing something where the odds of getting a good result are as long as the colletive wage bill of the useless prima donnas on the pitch.
Give me real football played with heart at a fraction of the price any day .

You can throw all sorts of mud at Rooney about his earnings and his fortunate position compared to the average man on the street, but he's still a human being. How many of us can honestly say that we haven't made a poorly judged comment in the heat of the moment? People are getting in far too much of a spin over-analysing a throwaway remark.

I expect that when the dust has settled, Rooney will apologise for any offence caused by his comment and that should be the end of the matter. Once the raw emotion is out of the way, he will realise that he and the team performed very poorly and that the fans that have paid thousands of pounds to travel to South Africa had grounds to voice their disappointment. By the same measure, the players will be understandably gutted and the whole sorry episode should be forgotten by the time we take to the field against Solvenia - for the benefit of the whole country.

The England tteam are an embarrassment to the nation, they should have to forfeit their place in the tournamnent and be sent home in disgrace.

The FA should then compensate all supporters expenses too.

On TV it looked as if Princes William and Harry wanted to hide themselves in shame having been sent out to represent us at last night's game in SA.

Good luck!

Poor as he was (there were other players worse imo), it showed he still had some fight in him. Misdirected and petulant of course!
Drop him.............no chance!! Slag him off for being overpaid............quite right he and others are. However because our supposed hero has let us down , we want to ''bin'' him to improve our chances GET REAL. Do that and don't bother even switching on the box come the Slovenia match because if some of you had your way ; we  will have lost any chance we have of progressing in the competition.
OK I've supported a Manure player, sorry folks but at the moment he is an ENGLAND player.

Doesn't matter - the t**t was shite in both games so far and ought not to be selected for the third game - the Italian even picks Heskey 'cos (allegedly) Wayne plays better off him ... There are 23 in the squad, you can't convince me that Rooney's form makes him an automatic choice for the next (and hopefully not the last) match.

After the comments made BY Rooney, HE should apologise in person not let the FA put out a statement.

It's about time this team of well overpaid divas realised that they are representing this country and they are getting extremely well paid to do so. It's also time they were paid on results and if they can't put in the performance then the pay shouldn't appear in their respective banks.

If the amount of passion they have to play football for their country is reflected in the passion with which they sing their National Anthem, it explains why they give such poor performances as hardly any of them sing it, or even pretend to. Again, if they're good enough to play for their country, they should at least look as if they are also  PROUD to play for it and sing their anthem. It should be explained to them that singing their anthem is classed as a display of honour of being there for, and pride in, their country.

N.B. Footballers are not the only people who don't sing the anthem when representing England.  I've noticed on numerous occasions that when it is played at other meetings, (i.e Olympics, Commonwealth Games, etc.), when we are lucky enough to have medal winners the winner rarely sings God Save the Queen.

Load of ba-baaa lass.

1) I'm not sure what a song about begging a supernatural being that few people believe in to extend the life of someone who many care not a jot about has to do with anyone's feeling of pride in their country.

2) It's the National Anthem of the UK, not England (which is ironic, since an original verse spoke of crushing rebellious Scots).

3) It's a fcuking dirge anyway. No wonder England play so sluggishly after having to listen to 90 seconds of that pile of tripe. You want a tune that makes you want to go and put your neck on the line, not the aural equivalent of Temazepam. Now: If we had a tune like Il Canto degli Italiani, or the Russian National Anthem, then even Bob G would be out flag waving.

The pessimism of the British press has succeeded in conning many of its gullible readers into sharing the same negative attitude towards Britain’s top sportspersons. The sarcasm and ridicule printed in the tabloids has been adopted by the hard of thinking amongst our nation, putting extra pressure on them to succeed.

Well, as most of them don't seem to be able to save a pass or a goal, I hardly think they would bother singing about saving the Queen either....lol..

Have to say tho, not singing doesn't mean you love your country any less, I like to think it makes us less like the posturing yanks, who sing to a spotty old rag of a flag.

I figure your country is like your relatives, you might not like it sometimes, but you love it deep down, you deon't have to run round shouting about it thats all..

After last night and the performances against America, Mexico, Japan and Platinum Stars (I know the last three were friendlies and poor performances would normally be disregarded, but as the poor performances have continued there is a problem) I am feeling negative about our \"top sportspersons\".

I don't read any newspapers and I don't watch any TV news channel (eg SSN) during the close season so you're wrong.

Lol.
What we need is something with a bit of drum and bass (as the grandkids). ;)

Not singing the National Anthem is bad enough but can you remember when that cheeky fecker Daley Thompson whistled along at the Olympics? There's no wonder he never won a third Olympic gold with that sort of bad attitude.

And do you know why he competed in an individual sport? Feckin prima donna, that's why.

Three million pounds a secound he got paid. And this was the eighties, so it was worth even more.
And the final was on a Saturday, so that's time and a half.

And another thing. You never saw Mike Tyson or Lennox lewis singing the Nation Anthem before a fight did you? Boxers eh? Concentrating on a fight instead of singing a song. Feckin OPDs, they should be made to fight to the death and the loser doesn't get paid.

For me, we just need to get Football off the front pages, infact any pages other than the back ones. We need to get Football out of the glossy magazines. Do that, and all the celebrity'ism will disappear, all the hanger-on-ers will disappear, all the wags, all the fat bas**rd Cordons, all the clueless chicks, all the celebrities, all the kids, all the singers, Arthur Fonzarella, actors, americans, money etc etc etc etc.....all we will be left with is the real footy fan, whatever sex, colour, religion they are. These are the people that are solely interested in Football and always will be, and will not give one little turtles head about all the other useless trappings.

It's that simple, but will never happen.......yet.

Infact I've just re-read that, and it's quite good, if I say so myself.

Ps I've only watched snippets of that rotund leech Cordon, and honestly it's nearly made me cry watching those World Cup boys being wheeled out and paraded amongst all that shite around them. How out of place they look, and you can see it all over their faces, how it was for them

Making an \"apology\" through the FA is not sufficient in my eyes, he should do what he did when he made the comment in the first place and come on camera and issue the apology in person, not through an FA spokesperson

Not judging the mental capacity of anyone here, but perhaps Bentley Bullet was suggesting people should be able to ignore the frenzy and consider; 'perhaps Wayne Rooney might just have been angry, frustrated and disappointed with himself and with everything at that moment?'

The media will tell us that he's nigh on committed treason, and when he apologises it's just a snivelling apology and not good enough.

He may get paid a lot of money but he is still a human being. Can us fellow humans honestly say we have never made a regretful comment in response to a disappointing situation when things have gone against us?

He's issued an apology, that should now be the end of the matter.
